spidermite/other pests idea for micro growers

it just occurred to me that these buggers need O2 to survive...

it also occurred to me that I can easily fit my whole grow in a large plastic bag.

if I were to seal said bag at lights off with a small flame burning inside, could I not kill off most of the population overnight? can anyone think of any adverse effects? anyone willing to try it?

The bag and/or it's contents might catch on fire and burn down your house. No adverse effects other than that. ;)
cheers

obviously you would need to take precautions not to set a fire, like protecting the flame. I'm thinking under one of the scrog nets it would be safe. Probably an alcohol flame would do the job - low temperature, easy to control, low fumes.

it would not burn long. just until the O2 is used up.

wouldnt the fire go out without air?

Jay, I'm feeling this incredible urge to rib you a little for both seeing the point and missing it completely. of course the flame goes out when the air runs out. that's the idea.

is there a smacking someone lightly upside the head emoticon? :nanana:

Just be careful. In the words of Frankenstein's monster, "Fire bad!" ;)

i think where I could run into trouble with an open flame is if I get a hole in my bag and it runs all night.

anyone know if eggs can survive without oxygen very long? what about the respiration of the plant (it need some O2 for that)?

heheh.

I got the idea from the experiments that first proved plants make oxygen. it involved a candle, a plant, and a sealed chamber.

Won't the bag collapse as the o2 burns off? Either that or float away as the air gets hotter? Hang on to the bag tight! ;)

as the C02 sublimates, and reaches ambient temps, won't the pressure inside the bag increase?

also no room in a rubbermaid.

guess it's all moot unless we know whether or not the plants emit 02 in the dark cycle. the experiment which proved plants made 02 involved removing the 02 with a candle and then being surprised to find a still living animal (insect I think)
