Newly germed seed and dammit, I broke the taproot off. 
Is it as good as dead or can it be saved? I left it in water for now.

oooooh not good. It can make it but chances are slim depending on where it broke. I've broken just the tipi tip off and had them survive.
No, it broke right where it comes out of the shell. Live and learn. Damn big fingers and small shot glass. Shit.
