Student loans

Hey guys, i know a lot of you are students and/or were and took out loans.

My school has determined i'm not eligible for a pell grant, which makes me wonder if i'm eligible for a federal loans. Anyways, the max isn't enough, as my school caps it at 4 thou a year, and i'm trying to replace a salary with it. So... anyone know of any private student loan places that make it ridiculously easy to get a loan??? I mean, i can't get a cosigner and i have no personal credit history. I need the money ASAP or else i'm out on my ass!

help pleaseeeeee

This isn't what you asked for, but maybe it will help you or someone reading this...

Student loans are a nightmare. They cannot be discharged through bankruptcy. If you must waste money you don't have on an 'education', use credit cards as they are easier to discharge through BK.

If that isn't an option, get a part time job and work your way through school. Or better yet, grow your own money...

yeah alot of kids I know took out loans, I don't want to risk it, since like taco said, when you owe money to the government, you gotta pay it

and I know some that didn't like what they we're taking or ran into other problems

Or you can pay back student loans with credit card cash advances and then declare bankruptcy on the credit cards... and you'll have a great history of paying back your school debt.

Sorry, you're about 3 years to late. Not only has the easy credit train left the station, but a lot of the private loan industry has...imploded...for a lack of a better term.

If you *CAN* get a co-signer with *GOOD* (700+) credit then you may qualify for a private student loan from Chase or Wells Fargo. Those are the last two big banks that do private loans.

There are still a few smaller specialty banks that do school-certified loans but you want to use all available Federal money as you can. To be honest you should qualify for most everything Federal/State unless you made to much money last year.

Hey brutha. First, let there be no mystery-your fafsa will say very plainly whether or not you are eligible, and whether or not you have been offered federal student loans. These loans are awesome-they require no cosigner, no credit report, and most important, low interest and flexible repayment options. Eat them up first if they are available to you, which again, you can find out very easily.
Anyways, the max isn't enough, as my school caps it at 4 thou a year, and i'm trying to replace a salary with it.
What?

No, especially in today's climate. Call your financial aid office and explain the situation. Explain to them exactly what you told us. Don't feel embarrassed or intimidated, your getting raped on tuition, thus their salaries. They are there to help you. Often times they will extend federal loan options if it's a really tough situation like yours.

Somethings amiss here. When I got them a Pell Grant was usually easier to get than a GSL. The only way you dont get a Pell is if you made too much $$ at a job during the same year or if you live at home. The G part of GSL is guaranteed student loan which is now the Stafford Loan and is still guaranteed to students and going to be at a way better rate than any private loan you can get. No private loan is going to guarantee you money without credit or a cosigner and a Stafford will not only do that but give you a better rate than private loans or credit cards.

For those that say GSL's are bad because you cant default on them and go bankrupt are pretty much missing the whole point of borrowing money in the first place.

When borrowing money to invest, you don't consider the risk involved?

You speak like a gambler. I dont consider risk because the money I borrow goes towards 'investments' that are insured for full replacement if something happens to them.

Having an education doesnt put you at a higher risk for failure than does having no education.

You don't consider purchasing an illiquid 'asset' with borrowed money that is non-dischargable through bankruptcy a risk? It appears you are confused as to who is insured against loss. I'll give you a hint, it isn't the student.

Whether or not a person with a college education is a higher credit risk is not the issue.

ISSUE:
Should people be indebting themselves for an 'education'?

Oh, and aren't we all gambler's at heart? :canabis::nanana:

Any drug offenses on your record could make you ineligible for federal aid...bullshit rule even murders and sex offenders can get aid before someone busted with a joint.

The only ones Ive seen turn an education into a risk are those that quit. I also guarantee you that a college education puts you in a much better position to pay back any said loan.

In reply to your issue when has any education been free in any sense of the word? Youre going to pay for it in one way or another. If you can give me one good reason to postpone it Im all ears but I never heard anyone say Im so glad I waited until I was 50 so I could afford my medical degree.
