THE MAN CAVE

I needed a place to do some pollen chucking and collecting. After reading JLP's great thread about his male iso chamber, I decided to make something similar so I took a ride to my favorite store, The Home De Pot.

I picked up a Heavy Duty 30 Gallon tote




A couple cans of black and white spray paint, an air filter, zip ties, and a 2ft 2bulb T5 fixture. Spent about 50 bucks.


I also had an old PC fan layin around, a power strip, duct tape, and an extra timer.

After cutting two holes at each end of the tote, I painted the inside white and the outside of the cover black....let dry....paint again...dry.... and then mounted the T5 fixture using the zip ties.



I cut 2 pieces out of the filter so that it covers the fan and the intake and mounted the fan using the zip ties





My Double Strawberry Diesel homie moved in as soon as the paint fumes were gone.
Set the timer to 12/12 and wait.......

Now that I've had my 1st dude in there for a while, its starting to look alot better. I couldn't spare any space in the flower room so i wanted something i could stick in a corner somewhr else. Works great


Here is my DSD dude after 2 weeks in the man cave. Alot more production than i expected. Theres only 28watts in there.

Anyone who has experience growing males...feel free to chime in. This dude got potted up to 1.5 gal of 50/50 COCO/FFOF on day 1. Nothing but straight water since. Does anyone hit the dudes wit bloom ferts & boosters?

That's awesome! I built one of JLP's isolation chambers, but I screwed up opening and closing it and accidentally fertilized all my plants. With a self-contained lighted chamber, I can keep the males in a completely separate area from the females.

I managed to get some pollen this week. That shit got all over the place.
I smacked the plant a few times over some plastic and scraped up the pollen with a credit card.
How long do the males continue to drop pollen? I'd like to get alot more.

This Cave is working waay better than i expected. 28 WATTS!!!

So this DSD stud has been in the cave for almost 4 weeks and he is lettin it fly.

I'm startin to get the hang of collecting pollen. Experience is the best teacher


I gently beat the shit out of this plant over a board until the pollen stopped falling.

I took a small plastic card and cleaned up the mess. There were hundreds of pollen sacks in the pile. I managed to separate em from the goods tho

I don't know where the hell to buy silica beans (over the counter)... so I grabbed one of these out of a sneaker box, and stuffed into the vial with the pollen

Looking good, you should be set for a while with the amount of pollen you've collected!

Damprid is a great dessicant for drying pollen.

I've found a small strainer or half a tea ball is an easy way to get the male flowers out of the pollen

Appreciate the share Marlo. For some reason I never thought to put the light inside the box. I was thinking the clear lid in the flower room. I like this though. Even less chance of spreading pollen indiscriminately in the flower room.

Will definitely try it out with my blue satellite 2.2 male. That DSD should be very nice. What are you thinking for a cross?

I don't have plans for too many crosses using the DSD pollen. I'm probly just gonna make F2's with my 2 fav pheno's. This will my my 1st attempt at making beans

Very well done. That thing is dropping pollen all over- looks like parmesan cheese!!!

I was going to say a light dose of bloom nutes but no need I see...

I had an awesome stinky Diesel leaning male that had 'split' fan leaves- three fingers on each side. Sadly, a groundhog ate it all...

Double Strawberry Diesel (f3s?) are surely highly desireable. What is the worst that can pop out of those genetics???

I am working the same cross in an outdoor setup with an isolated male... I'd also like to backcross DSD to KK's Strawberry Cough cut if I can find it...

If you pollinate the whole cola you will end up with thousands of seeds.
