Marijuana blamed for California Wildfires?

Was on cnn.com and was reading that one of the big fires was caused by a "drug operation". Supposed Mexican drug cartel marijuana grow operation where a cooking fire was blamed for 84000 acres burning so far. I am curious as tragic as this event is how it will all play out. Will the pro cannabis movement use it to our advantage or will the idiot drug warriors use it to their advantage. I would personally blame the failed drug war for this particular event because if cannabis were legal more than likely nobody would go trekking in those hills to plant anything. Hope eveyone here living near the fires are safe and secure out of harms way. What are your thoughts?

I saw this as well this morning, different network though. I wondered the same thing as you, first I thought "oh shit, bad news for pot community," then I thought, "this could be interpreted as another reason to get the black market out of the game by legalizing cannabis."

It'll be interesting to see which way the wind blows this fire...

I dont hate the chi man,in fact I'll be babysitting my moms for three weeks here shortly..It picks on my german shephard something awful lol.He could eat his face off but he's too good a boy for that.You have to know what you're getting into when getting a chi,they arent like any other dog period.And you better realize it from the start lol.They alternate from cool as shit and cute as can be to absolutely vicious spiteful critters with no conscience.I have to give my moms prozac every morning.I'm not shitting you its called reconcile and its regular prozac

Lol, don't know about the little ankle biters but I also wonder how much truth there is to the whole "Mexican drug cartel" thing. Don't want to stray too far from my original curiosity but why can't it just be a well organized group of "americans" that are growing? Anyway, love the comments so far. Keep em' coming.

I'm sure there are (lots)

and myself, think it's possible they don't even know if it's mexicans, maybe that's what they keep saying, maybe to fuck with mexicanos, or give a more scarier idea of the marijuana grows -> mexicans DRUG CARTELS
coupled with what's really going on in mexico, people might get scared

but imo, there is a lot of poor people in mexico, so it's easy to find mj field workers to bring down to the states, like, it's just a little prison (shelter/food), and there are chances it works out, and you make a lot of money to bring home.

cause i'm sure there are bosses who rake in the cash, and get some cheap labour to do the dirty work

my question to you all is this.......

Even if and when cannabis were legalized across the board
what would stop mexican (or other) growers from using the
great outdoors to profit from growing? The price will NEVER
really go down and so huge $$$ can be made perpetually.

I've read that it's quite common for LEO to find written materials in Spanish at these grow ops they find in the park lands. That is one reason why they associate these grows with Mexican gangs.
