Alton Towers in skimpy Speedos ban

Major tourist attraction Alton Towers has banned Speedos and other types of tight swimming trunks at its Staffordshire site on grounds of taste.
The trunks are favoured by the likes of Rod Stewart and soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo.

But it seems Alton Towers' bosses cannot stomach the types of swimwear that have featured at their waterpark, reckoning them "more suited to Spain than Staffordshire".

The company said that a number of men had been sporting tight trunks during the hot weather.

It went on: "To prevent embarrassment among fellow members of the public and to maintain the family friendly atmosphere at the resort, bosses have taken the extreme measure of banning these tight trunks from their popular waterpark located within the Splash Landings Hotel.

"While women may hail the return of the skimpy bathers, the style itself is not deemed public or family friendly, and therefore we are requesting that male swimmers wear more appropriate styles such as boardshorts."

Alton Towers Resort sales and marketing director Morwenna Angove said "We feel this small brief style is not appropriate for a family venue so we are advising male bathers to wear more protective swimwear such as shorts."

"We are also looking into offering complimentary male waxing, which will ensure preserve the dignity of all our guests."

But you have to ask. Why is it suddenly a problem. Guys have been wearing these oversized banana hammocks for many years. Do we now ban athletes from wearing similar attire because those slow motion shots of Linford Christie sprinting are going to put the willies up family life. I for one do not wear speedos or tight swim wear, i am a boardshort guy.

Cultural differences are funny sometimes. In some parts of the world you have to wear speedos. I think the swimming pool operators are afraid of people walking off the streets with denim shorts and jumping in the pool or something and have banned shorts because of that.

EDIT: I have just been informed that Speedos are actually specifically used for spearfishing in the Caribbean. Apparently it's a tribal thing. LOL

at the pool that is near my house, all men must wear speedos, no shorts allowed, and no oils or sun blockers either, everyone must wear swimming glasses and put their hair inside those rubber hats. this is an olympic size pool used for swimming... a couple miles there is another pool, just to bathe and have fun, and men must also wear speedos, this is almost true in tons of public pools, since speedos keep the water cleaner, shorts + underwear not so much.

um.. no? Who told you that? And those that do, do it because a speedo is MUCH cheaper than a wetsuit and provides MUCH less drag than swimtrunks(and in the area the usual swim trunks are longish boardshorts). When you're going down 30+ feet without a tank and staying there for minutes at a time, you kinda need all the help you can get. Dammit, now i want fresh sweet lobster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
