Let me share this with you.... I live roughly 2hrs from HTG in melbourne. I showed up there a couple days after the fire to buy a 600w digital greenhouse because of the killer deals they have. not knowing that they had a fire a couple of days previous. One of the guys working there told me about what happened and told me that they really had no inventory to sell at the time. To make a long story short they ended up selling me the ballast an reflector that was mounted to the ceiling that caught fire. I have been using it ever since with no complaints. Also I have been back there a few times since then and have been told that there was some bad wiring in the building ( which is very typical in the state of floida due to the shitty, slow, stupid, half assed construction workers around here) that shorted and caught the insulation on fire that was above the ceiling tiles. Now I don't know about you but I took home a ballast that was out of the package and covered in black soot and it is still working to this day. Sounds to me like another cheap ass landlord who hires the cheapest contractors to save money, and he got what was deserved. unfortunately for the guys at htg it was at their expense too.

very interesting. i thought htg's ballast would suck to be honest.
i'll give it a go and see what happens myself.

I bought the same setup. Came with hoods. Kept the ballasts after the first grow and sold the hoods. Still use the ballasts. 4th grow.

Got a DIY 250 watt HPS ballast from HTG. Worked for a week then the ballast went bad. They sent me a replacement, this one worked for about 3 weeks and the same thing happened. They sent me another replacement but I didn't even bother with it, it's still sitting in the box. I went and got a 250 watt Galaxy digi ballast, never had a problem since. I have also owned 2-600 watt Lumatek ballasts, I had one go out but it was replaced under the warranty. I'm going to purchase 3-600 watt digi ballasts for my new setup, I'll be getting Quantum ballasts this time.
