ROOTING CLONES on the MOM !!!!!!!

Great idea!! I have heard of this technique being used for grape vines before. The way they do it is bend a lower branch down and cover it in soil once its rooted just cut it off the mother plant and you have a replacement vine..Would it be easier to burry a thin sheet of metal/plastic/wood under the soil and put couple of handfulls of soil ontop of the sheet then lay your branch in the soil and leave it for a couple of weeks or so to root, cut it off the mother plant then remove the sheet of metal/plastic ect.. and you should have some newly rooted clones?

.....you essentially wound the plant at one or two consecutive internodes, apply a rooting compound, apply a "bandage" (i use rapid rooters, cut the rooter in 1 vertical line to the hole in the center) and keep the wounded area moist using a rooting solution applied with an air spray mister. after 14 days or so, remove large fan leaves above the wound, cut the branch from the plant and insert in growing medium. the cut should root even if long hairy roots are not present. if the stem covered by the "bandage" turns brown or white, roots will pop in the rooting medium. keep on rockin' in the free world.

thanks man i understand how air layering works >> this experiment was done with no root hormone of any kind and no scarification >>>>as i said before i know this isnt a original idea ...that was my point to see if this can be done without chemical assistance... and that being said even this is still not original I've seen it done essentially the same way before

thanks and  to everyone eles

Did you guys see the size of the trunk on that mom of Jacks?:yoinks:
holy cow man.

My cloner's full and shit's slow in there, so i can't take any cuts and i need to. Maybe I should try air layering a branch. Good luck with it jack.

HEllo all

well we have sucess the branch rooted i didnt keep it as wet as i should have next time i try this i know i can speed it up a bit by watering the cup more often

now i know this isnt a new idea air layering and other techniques are out there. this is simply a testimonial to how strong and resilience this plant is. with no effort or harsh chemicals . we can accomplish things that people spend years mastering in unnatural methods ..this seems much more efficient and less stressful on the plant to me...:joint::abduct:

im doing air layer with a piece of used up rockwool, some tape, and a plastic bag. ghettofab- my favorite.

ive split the branch in half and applied root hormone in the middle. i taped a toothpick to the branch for support and surrounded it with the rockwool, soaked in some nutes. i then wrapped that rockwool piece in the bag and now im waiting to see what happens.

i did that a week ago. the leaves on the branch looked like they were drying up at first and i thought i may have killed the branch, but she's growin nice and green again. i hope all is well i will check for roots soon.

good luck with yours

can we see another picture? have you snipped them off the plant or are you just leaving them till they are flowered or something?

mixedwell- I admire your technique using cheaper materials. At the same time-- with breaking the stem type air-layering, isn't the point of this method to not only take huge clones but also to make it so there is a smooth transition between mother and clone?

not saying your doing anything wrong, just asking if you have any answer for my curiosity's sake. :)

Xlatit ....I think that your point is well taken....

I think that this particular experiment was a valuable experiment....

But I think my thread is a good method to implement in the growroom.....
