AK48 vs AK47..?

I want the serious version, if anything I know the quality is there and am not focusing on one single pheno from a quality of genes.

Great yielder, great stone and gets done quickly. How can you not like it once you get a solid mom.

I like nirvana strains as well though, loved their rhino for sure.

Chaoscatalunya called right. Buy Serious AK47 and make your own f2's. But even your f2's will be superior to Nirvana AK48. It's a good strain, but it ain't the same as Simons

I just tried out AK48 the other day and must have got a sack of the Cherry Pheno cuz it was fruity as hell and had a slight cherry hint to it and was pretty tasty...

looks to me like nirvana just crossed 2 good strains and cashed in on the AK name... but idk. doesnt seem to be exactly the same thing though...

Here is a couple AK-48 pics. It is listed as an indoor strain but I didn't have the setup for indoor. So I said what the hell! They take till well into October to Finnish, Which is risking frost around here!
IMHO AK-48 is not stable at all. I thought i got a variety pack! Every plant is different. One turned almost black it was so dark purple. Most of the other had a lil bit of purple. Had some that had no purple at all. Some were very talk and lanky, few short and stalky, but most were in between.
Its a good strain you can def find a keeper or two out of a couple packs.
Everyone loved this strain but some phenos were favored over others.
Still I am searching for something like one of my dude used to get for 60-70 buck per eighth! This stuff was sold in jars and had a smell that reminded me of medicine. Some was almost fuel like. Once I heard it was skunk number 1, another strain was called godzilla, and another called holly wood! AK48s best phenos barely compared to these strains! I have never seen anything like it since.

probably a couple of years or so ago I asked this same question in here but never found a satisfactory answer...

so a couple of seasons ago I set out to find out for myself and started by growing out 4 packs of Serious Seeds AK47 in an outdoor grow and then repeated this exercise the following season with 10 packs of Nirvana's AK48 in exactly the same environment...

here's the verdict...

these two strains don't even seem to be vaguely related...the SS AK47's stank with a unique odor that stands out from well over a 100 metres away regardless of the direction you're approaching from...when dried, they smelt of an intense floral perfume that oosed outta everything but completely air-tight containers...tasted similar to the smell, sorta like candy...stuff was really crystaline with resin...smoke was potent scary sativa then coming down to a heavy indica bomb...

by comparison, Nirvana's AK48's were really punk, stinky like yuk! and very coarse, nothing refined about it at all...quite a few purple phenos that looked prettyish in growth but really nothing to speak about...finished, 48 had a flavour like mineral turps and potency was sativa leaning but weak to moderate at best...I didn't even bother keeping seed from them because there was simply nothing about it that was appealing enough for me to ever want to grow it again...a very poor choice!

furthermore, sometime back, when I spake with Simon from Serious Seeds, he told me that what he called a true cherry pheno was very rare amongst the 47's, however, I found most 47's do have some semblance of this cherry smell in growth and taste...however, the 48's didn't even have a hint of it and I grew out enough of 'em that I oughta know!

I'd certainly rather do 1 pack of AK47 than 3 packs of AK48, any day!...going with 48's you may get more quantity for the buck but in reality this will end up proving to be false economy...truly, you'd be well advised to pursue the quality of the 47's! If you ended up going with the 48 and later got to try 47, you'd be bitterly disappointed that you ever wasted time with the 48!
Serious Seeds AK47 is truly world class smoke and product in every respect! Nirvana's 48 is rubbish!

I believe I read this thread thoroughly and I believe one thing has been left out.
It would seem perfectly reasonable that Nirvana crossed the Ak47 with the 2 strains from their library (ice - jock horror) and the cherry pheno is there. Maybe not as often or as pronounced. But still there are people who attest to this. Nirvana sort of give it away by calling it AK48. Yes we stole some of your genetics and now we play the name game, prove it.
All breeders do is cross strains that have been developing for millenia.
The tribesmen that did that work deserve the credit for maintaining and improving land races. Most of the seed banks that you guys are so precious about are not intersted in improving genetics and keeping the landraces alive. They cross it with an afghani then backcross big fucking deal. I could teach a monkey to do that. Excepting people that risked there arses in dangerous countries to bring these seeds back and the old hippies that were not interested in making money just sharing the rest are just exploiting the humble grower who wants to get or improve his genetics. How can you seriously say you own those genetics. Sounds like you are starting to believe your own bullshit.
Quite frankly the cheaper seed companies seem to hold this asthetic better than the rip off expensive ones and I would rather use them.

I just finished up a grow of AK48, Bubblelicious from Nirvana and Strawberry Bubba Kush(KKSCXPre98 Bubba Kush from a cali breeder(OGR). I got to tell you that the Nirvana beans and their final product came out frosty and potent. I'm as happy with their stuff as I am with the $100 per pack beans from Cali breeder. Oh Yeah the Nirvana beans cost less and they were all feminized. If I see some AK47 fem beans on sale from Serious, I'll consider buying them, but they have to be feminized and cheaper, I have only one closet to grow in. The jar cure, now one month, has made these buds real tasty and smelly.

Ive grown both and loved both, There really does'nt seem to be many similarities between the two. Im am currently growing the ak48 once again and i have one pheno that is blooming so heavily it looks weeks ahead of anything else ive grown at that stage. i myself do not need a one hitter quitter, I like to smoke and the ak48s were a very good one at that, very sticky. great bag appeal and loved by everyone who smoked it. the ak47 was good too but i actually enjoy the flavor from ak48's more. Getting a variety of phenos is a good thing to me.. if there was no variety in phenos we would never have gotten C99 out of a bag of jack herer. Diversity rocks

I have the cherry pheno of ak-48 and its a huge hit with patients here. very clear up motivational sativa buzz. even in veg the stem smells cherry cough drops and sandlewood.

i've given 48 a whirl - never had my paws on 47 to compare to, tho. out of a run of 10 i found one i held on to, but it's not the cherry people discuss in either of these strains or even similar - once cured, it has the taste/smell of black jelly beans, and it carries an almost flo-ish up buzz. that kind of stoned clarity that's great for having to function, but still wanting to giggle at stupid shit.

yield on it isn't great tho, so i don't run it constantly. that freakishly candyfied taste is a nice occasional treat, tho
