Changing from lights during day to night

I am considering changing my lights from running at day to running at night. How gradually would you need to push the times back? Or would it not be possible to change mid-grow?

A schedule change is no worry as long as you do it cold turkey, all at once.

When your lamp comes on, pull the ON pin from the timer (so it can't come on again until you say so). When the lamp goes out, allow the full night period. When the night period is past, chose any new "sunrise" you want. At that time open the cab, reset your timer pins and fire up the lamp.

I screw the lights 2-3 times every grow. Don't try to, life ... happens. As long as glitches are well spaced out, no worries. Daily glitches is where you get screwed.

So what you are saying is if I am running 12 / 12 now, allow a full 24hrs of darkness or should you do 36hrs before the new sunrise? When you say pull the pin when it comes on I assume you mean 24hrs, that the plant "realizes" 9am - 9pm is its new night, and forgets that it used to be 9pm-9am, that way when I provide light during the new night it does not realize it is really its "old night", ( I am sure it translates to some hormone that gets depleted when the plant skips its light period? ) I am interested in the science behind this

When you say daily glitches, would that include dark periods within my day to allow cooling, I assume not since nature does this with lunar eclipses, cloudy days, other surrounding foliage blocking out light, etc... Just checking because I paid good $ for feminized seeds, heh. I realize I will reduce yield by not running the full 12/12 but so will high temps, yeah?

I just recently swapped round, I was on from 10am till 10pm, I kept my 'day' going for an extra 12 hours so my 'day' now starts at 10pm going through the night, I figured it was better to keep the dark hours at 12 and extend the day, it's been around 4 weeks since i swapped and no signs of any stress - knocking on wood -

best way is to leave in dark for 24hours then
change it to what time you like

dont mess with the day length, and never allow less that 12 hours darkness. stretch the dark out till ur ready for your new on time.

A one time glitch wont hurt but, consider this: Lengthening day periods tell the plant NOT to flower.
