voltage question

Ok so i have been trying to figure out this whole electricity thing for a while now. Im still not an expert by any means so stick with me. Ok so the ac i want to run is rated at 230 volts. I have a dedicated 40 amp 240 volt line for the ac. Now this is where i get confused the receptacle(outlet or whatever the thing is called that you plug into) ,that i will actually be switching out to fit the a/c plug ,says 50amp 250 volt. now is that the max the outlet can handle and it is ok to have a 230 volt appliance on a 240 volt line? if anyone can straighten me out i would appreciate it. thank you guys

Hi McChris,
If you're talking about having to swap out the socket or receptacle so that your AC plug will fit into it...then ya, the numbers stamped on that are maximum ratings. So you're ok. And on the voltage...no problem there either. 220v, 240v or 250v. Voltages vary from country to country. So you'll be OK with your AC circuit.

Careful swapping that out and be sure to shut the power off at the breaker while you work on it or you'll wind up dead. (I know you knew that, but I had to say it anyway). And if you get into shit you don't understand...be safe and call for help.

I'm not current on the correct plugs and receptacle but this is something you need to be very sure of. Safety first.

by the way, would it be possible in this situation to just replace the AC plugin with something that will fit the range plugin? is that possible / safe? instead of changing the receptacle. just askin

I'm reading there that there are different types of circuits.

What comes to mind in a breakout box.. I can't see an AC pulling 40 amps so perhaps a plug in box that other devices can also plug into?

one other thing with 240 connections

The new connections have to very tight. Alot tighter than a standard 120 connection. Otherwise it wont fire up
