What's new

I completely screwed up making hash tincture. Help?

I was going to make a cannabis tincture but the guy at the dispensary said hash would work much better, flavor-wise. He said the only deviation to make from the original recipe was to add a tiny bit of coconut oil to the alcohol bath so the hash doesnt sink and stick to the bottom of the jar.

Here's what I did:
cook 1 gram of hash spread out over a light covering of coconut oil on aluminum foil on a cookie sheet for 45 minutes at 250F. The temperature fluctuated from 239f to 260f. I think coconut oil at this point might have made the hash bond to it. I was afraid the hash would stick to the foil.

transfer the hash to 2 oz of everclear over the stove at 175f(consistently) for 15 minutes.

save the tincture in brown tinted bottle with a dropper.

so here's the result: the hash bonded with the oil, preventing it from diffusing evenly into the tincture. it formed globules of hash oil that sink to the bottom of the bottle immediately after shaking it. i've tried from 1-4 droppers of this (tincture with several globules in it) with zero effect besides the alcohol (that everclear IS some pretty strong stuff, whew!).

i'm determined to get this right as i'm starting to enjoy the effects of edibles over smoking. get to the right level of effect and it works for hours.

also, if anybody can point me to a good hash caramel recipe, i'd appreciate it.

You would serve yourself well to read many of the threads in this forum before you proceed.

Well, no need to disolve your hash into an oil if your planning on disolving it into an alchohol.

Take your hash and mix it directly into your menstrum of choice, strain if you choose and then enjoy.

You might try taking the mixture and pouring it out onto a plate or baking dish set out and let all the alcohol evaporate out scrape out what's left and use it in an edible recipe.

I've read several articles and tried to glean the major points from each. Anything jump out of my post as to what went wrong?

It certainly looked like a unique process.

You can extract with oil or alcohol and using both has questional utility.

The process also seems a little rough on the cannabinoids, given the time at temperature.

Have you considered just extracting the oil from the hash using alcohol and then reducing the alcohol down to a dense tincture?

Likewise you can cook the hash in coconut oil, strain it, and get most of the goodness out that way.

The kiss principle seems to work best for me.
