Only if the intake is open in the cab sucking outward past the light and through your filter, if your cool tube takes air from outside a side of your cab and out the opposite side via the lamp then of course the filter would have no effect.

I see, so all the cooltube's out there cant do this because it only has one opening?
So i would need a aircooled hood shade to do this then?

Hard to do stuff on a budget when there's so much marketting out there, need to buy the right thing really. Cant be a hit and miss job

I don't see any reason you could not do this it seems way more efficient to me. Like the other guy said just don't have the Cooltube directly pulling air from the outside. You could even run a little ducting and make a little pre-filter to catch any dust before it entered the light cooling/air filtering system. I would use a stronger in-line fan when doing this though since you will be increasing the workload of the fan. another consideration would be the filtering capacity of the scrubber and if that is affected at all by the heat from the light. That should be easy to find out with a simple google search.

All cooltubes can because all tubes are open at both ends like straws. Think of a straw with one end glued shut. Were the tube not open at both ends it wouldn't work.

The trick is how you set it up. (These illos were done for other reasons but will illustrate the point.) There are two ways to do this; BOTH require one end of the tube be connected to the exhaust. In Scenario 1 the tube has a dedicated run. It never touches interior cab air and need not be scrubbed. This requires an additional fan for cab cooling and filter. In Scenario 2 the cooltube cools and vents the cab itself. This method REQUIRES a filter at the end of run to prevent escaping smells. Which end is arbitrary. First thing inside the cab or last thing outside the cab

wouldnt the high heat from the bulb screw with the carbon filtration? if its venting right from the light it must be hitting real high temps at the filter

No you would set it up pulling thru the scrubber. shown as....

SCRUBBER==>Light==>EXHAUST FAN==>outside cab

this is how i run mine and it works great to get rid of the smell and keeps the bulb much cooler. heres some pics of my setup... F.y.i: a stanley blower fan modded to an exhaust fan works great and can be found at walmart for like $40.

That's what the fan is for. To prevent heat buildup. You want your exhaust to pull the hottest air from the cab or it wouldn't cool the cab.

Carbon is "activated" by firing it at approx 1,500ºF. The 100º our lamps build up is nothing.

Lemme get this right,
Carbon Filter << Exhaust << Cool tube

So a air hood reflector could remove heat and smell ?

I do it like this:
Carbon Filter -> Inline fan -> duct -> cooltube -> duct

The air in the room circulates through the carbon filter and acts as a scrubber, removing the odor. It's not perfect but it works. I'm actually planning on upping the inline fan size (i bought a 4" to save money on the filter) and using the filter and inline fan for a freestanding scrubber.

i run like this

4 inch carbon scrubber 4 inch ducting into a Y adaptor off to air cooled hood and cooltube

i pull air across the bulbs the socket is closest to the exhaust fan, 4inch ducting into another Y adaptor upto the stanel blower fan for exhaust directly into the attick.

soon i'll be upgrading to 6inch ducting and adaptors my temps during lights on dont exceed 85, lights out flower erea is what house is 73-75

Hi everyone my set up at the moment is like this:

Cabinet >> Aircoolhood >> Ducting >> Outside Cabinet >> HVk extractor fan >> Carbon scrubbeh

There isnt enough space inside the cabinet for the filter to be..

There is only one opening on the carbon filter so i can only pull air into it.
I dont have any cool air coming into the hood either.. just ambient air.

I dont know if this is going to work or not with keeping the smell away but it works with the temperature i can touch the hps bulb with my finger and keep my hand a few inches underneith the bulb

Can anyone advise abotu the smell? Thankyou
