NORML Growers Insurance

I was stoned and thinking why doesn't NORML offer growers insurance?

Like, you send NORML 2 grand and they guarantee proper counsel if you happen to get busted.

It could work to lessen costs of lawyers for poor growers and help raise money for NORML, just like a regular insurance company. It could be pulled off where you wouldn't be giving your info to NORML....anon donation that gives you a password or something like that. Thoughts?

isn't that called a retainer?

you can do that with any med lawyer or any lawyer for that matter.

have them on speed dial just in case

Retainer is just the down payment. I'm talking like a one time fat donation that you aren't getting back that will CYA just in case.

Farmers have crop insurance also, to protect the crop from damage, would have liked some spider mite insurance earlier on.

Hey Dirty Nasty, are you a member of NORML?

I think it's a great idea, rates could be adjusted state by state on the basis of current laws, a state like California (& other med states) would have lower premiums because a medical defense is recognized in the courts, a state like Pennsylvania is entirely redneck about growing & possession and so premiums would be higher. Premiums would be kept lower than that 2K imo because it would enable many more growers to afford it and therefore more $$$$ in the pool, I can't think of a single grower who's able to shell out that many shekles up front at any one given time, if they're grower/sellers then they see their extra green at harvests end unless running a perpetual garden.

intriguing concept Nasty, you should run it by NORML sometime.......

EDIT:
Lloyds of London has always been willing to take on different, risky, and cutting edge insurance binders. With the new outlook on cannabis these days I'll bet they'd be a willing partner of NORML or perhaps take on the task themselves.

I think the only issue is the list would create a database of possible growers. The idea behind it is great, but increased distribution of information makes me very very nervous.

btw, congrats on posting a very unique thread no easy feat these days. I just checked the 'Cannabis Laws & Cannabis Legislation' forum and nobody has broached this subject yet either in that forum, I'd say go for it, good food for thought.......

most growers i know have a lawyer and they pay them 5 stacks a year regardless of a case or not... nice to have a lawyers direct number incase you get in a sticky situation....

This would be the lawyer for the small personal growers. It would be power in numbers. Lots of little growers paying a little to help out the few who get burned. Commercial guys should have lawyers on retainer anyways.

I'm sure there is a way to donate anonymously where they can still identify if you donated or not. You could just make your own username/password used to identify you when you donate and if you get busted, you send confirmation of your username/password. No use of personal info until that time comes.

If you pay a Lawyer to set you up legally..all the necessary paper work, how you can operate, how large, how many plants...then I would think that they would have to back up what they advised, in Court--
That is how our co-op is done...every move goes through the Lawyer--
I'm just a worker there..so I do not know the specifics though--

I remember hearing years ago that statefarm insurance offered something for medical growers in California . Something like they would pay out up to $500 per plant for crop failure or theft .

That's a good idea, Nasty. A group like NORML, who could be trusted, would need to run it in order to ensure anonymity for the growers. And there would have to be enough security to prevent breaches by cops and snitches.

Just a thought - a prior arrest for simple possession or a PU grow should not cause a grower to pay more, or to be denied coverage. But members who became
high-risk would eventually need to be dealt with, in order to protect the other growers.

If it worked, there would be guaranteed counsel for folks who simply want to grow their own stashes. There are a lot of small growers out there who could use it, just in case disaster strikes.

wow, incredible idea! like was said, if nothing else its an original thread in a sea of repeats. Won't they be pissed when they realize every small time grower they're busting has an expert lawyer on deck waiting to rip them to shreds for every illegal move they pulled.

There wouldn't be any need for the lawyers to know their grower clients' names, until the growers were in trouble. Then the lawyers would be called in.
