Heat Problem, Which is best for my space

hi everyone, I am new to the forms, I am about to start a grow diary for my stealth 56" big screen tv grow, but I am having one problem with the cab, the heat!! OK so I have a 250W HPS with remote ballast(w/ home made cool tube pushing and pulling air from outside the cab, over the light and out of the cab, 6 inch fans with about 300cfm each side) I also have 700 watts of different spectrum CFLs(400w of 6500K, 300w of 2600K). I am not using them together, here is the deal my room temperature is 79 degrees with out any lights. If I run the cool tube in there it sits right at 90 degrees in the cab about 9 inches away from the light and with just the CFLs it runs at 85 degrees. My only problem is which one should I use? should I go with hotter with better light or just use CFL's to keep temp down or should i just put the light a few more inches higher? all help we be greatly appreciated, thanks, oh and I am wanting some decently dense buds :joint:

Maybe it's just the way you've described things but it sounds to me like you have no intake or exhaust and have turned the cab into an EZ bake oven. The cab itself needs air exchange if you want to remove heat. Running air over the lamp isn't enough.

Get an exhaust fan, punch 3 equal sized holes in the cab, two at bottom for passive intake, one above for fan and filter.

actually, I have 2 squirrel fans(unsure on output at least 200cfm each) for an intake at the bottom and 1 365cfm fan for an output at the top(both on opposite sides and corners) thats with the light that has 2 365cfm fans, one for input and one for output so the hot air from the light never touches the room

yes, it is close enough that the vent is blowing on the side of the tv, I am going to post picks at about 8, that's when daylight starts

another note, the higher I raise the light the lower the temp gets but only by like a degree an inch, like I said right now the plants are sitting about 9 inches away from the light wich is where I have the thermostat. I can go up another 10 inches or so but I do not want to have a problem with them stretching and then the light will already be at the top of the cab and I just started flowering yesterday and they are all a foot tall or so already. these are just bag seeds I have been growing for a few weeks to perfect my cab before I put in the seeds I just got in from attitude :)

ok here are the pictures of what I am working with, these are just bag seeds about 3 weeks from seed, starting flowering day before yesterday, trying to figure out the problems before I start the good one. The picture of the surge protector is actually a set of squirrel cage fans routed up for intake and the one above the light is for exhaust. Last picture is of the lights outside the cab off but inside on, no leaks :) now just the cooling issue, which by the way takes about two hours or so before it hits 90

you might find t5s would better fit your set-up. i run at 86* regularly and my plants still dont transpire. also with being that close your plants are probably getting hit with alot of radiant heat. i cant tell but if you can lift it a little mayb itll help but your plants dont look like their transpiring and even tho 90 isnt ideal if you have enuff air exchange you can get away with it.

so you think its better to have the light further away, I can go another 10 inches or so up which will lower the temp in the cab a few degrees, but then I wouldn't be able to move the light with them as they grow, main thing is I do not want them to stretch. even with the door off and everything on its 79 right above the tv and and 86 degrees at 9 inches under the light.

.... oh and I am wanting some decently dense buds....

You can pull this off if you keep your total grow space as close to 5square feet as you can. And with a 56"(old skool projection is what I'm thinking)you shoul be around that or a lil less. As far as the heat issue, my MJ doesn't mind high 80's, and the hotest being 91F. But if your really wanting to bring it down, it sounds like you'll need to drop those room temps another 5 degrees at least, IMO Good luck!

9 in seems a little low for how big your plants are now, IMO. i would higher your light to at least 12in+ at 12 inches away your still getting full lumens and at their age they might not want all that light. you can always tie branches down if they get outta hand.

Definitely go with the CFL's. 700 watts is 700 watts. You will do MUCH better yield wise, regardless of the fact that they are flouros. Keep them nice and close and you will be very pleasantly surprised!

CannabisOptimus, sounds good to me, anyone else agree? I was just worried about how dense the bud will be, since that seems to be the main difference. I smoke about a quarter to a half an ounce a week with my wife and I just want to be able to supply that:joint:

The end result might be a bit more fluffy then with an HPS, but the end product should be every bit as tasty and ...well more then with a 250 hps. Enjoy:)

true, well I figured out that if I turn off the fan in the room, for some reason the temp drops to about 86 with the lights on and the door closed, I think that should be good enough, thanks to everyone who offered up advise.
