What's new

why so many bubblegums and which one?

Q

I'm in the frustrating situation of trying to sort out the Bubblegum strains and see a bewildering array of varieties available including numerous crosses.

why is it that this strain seems to be so replicated around the place? And which one is which and for what reasons?

Can anyone help me out a little please?

I tried nirvanas bubblelicious back 03' and didnt have much success with it, though ive heard a lot of good reports on it here, and also nirvana are generally ok so may be worth a shot, though i havent tried serious seeds bubblegum, that would be the one id get because simon is a good breeder

just remember that there are NON bubblegum phenos to deal with, with most of the seeds no matter the breeder.

I would go with Serious as well btw BUT might take a couple packs to locate that creme of the crop.

its just how life goes in the grow game.

Environmental conditions will also play a big part on your plants aroma, if your conditions are good it will make it much easier to find a plant with a good gene pool combination and a desireable phenotype, as said here already Simon from Serious Seeds is a deticated breeder.

By the way, isn't THSeeds the original creator of the first Bubblegum or am I wrong?
Anybody knows better about this strain's history?

Jenn.. I take it this means that each branch of Bubblegum could be considered a seperate IBL? I'm curious then, if anyone has experimented with recombining modern day Bubblegums from different breeders? (similar to Mosca's current work with Reeferman and Wallyduck's C99 lines)

A danish breeder called Sagaseeds have also worked with bubblegum for years.
he uses the Enough Bubbles for it but recently he named it Bifrost ( out of nordic mythology) and sticks to that name now
its very famous amoung growers in my region
he worked more with the sativa phenoes as oppose to Serious and TH seeds
it still yields well above average and finishes in 10 weeks

he dont sell to seedbay so i cant give any links due to censorship ( same reason the mullahs banned him from here i guess)

i know he has a breeder section in a little free speech grower forum but cant give any links for that either...

thanx so much for supplying some background to this stuff...

So if the main lines of Bubblegum were all pretty close to start with, I wonder if some of the deviances are due to introduced bloodlines or have the main breeders like THSeeds and Serious just inbred from selections within the same strain over a long period. Nonetheless I see they're supposed to have maintained their vigor...

I remember BOG called himself the BubbleGum Guru in OG's days and was doing a lot of work with lines like Bogglegum and Bogbubble though apparantly there were some vigor issues with one or two of his lines toward the latter stages. I gathered his SourBubble BX3 was supposed to be something really outstanding but I'm hunching it was down the heavy indica path, though I 've never sampled it nor heard from anyone as to what it was really all about and searches have returned me no hard facts.

Anybody knows better about this strain's history?

A grower in Indiana (USA) developed the original material during the 80's. In 1993, this guy from Cerebral Seeds gave three very different female Bubble Gum plants to Adam from T.H. Seeds as well as to Simon and Tony (the two split up shortly after, with Simon founding Serious Seeds, and Tony Sagarmatha Seeds). So Bubble Gum arrived in the Netherlands in the hands of three breeders. And from that moment on, different new chapters were written in the breeding history of Bubble Gum, its development kind of branched out. Three breeders - three ways of breeding: These seed masters were going to make their own special selection out of the three different genetic types they had received.

Simon reports: "As far as I know, T.H. Seeds did work further with another of those 3 plants than I did." That's the reason why Adam (T.H. Seeds) considers his Bubble Gum as 'mostly Indica', whereas Simon puts his version into the 'mostly Sativa' category. He focused his research on two of the three lines, finally deciding for one type that should become his Bubble Gum seed strain.

Bubble Gum It took Simon five generations to end up in the desired breeding result, officially registering it as 'Bubble Gum'. He says that it is not possible to give exact Sativa/Indica percentages, but reveals that the genetic background of Bubble Gum consists of three different exotic Sativas, amongst them Mexican and Columbian, and an Afghani Indica.

It is remarkable that Bubble Gum is the only inbred strain (no F1 hybrid) in the Serious Seeds menu, thus being especially uniform. Upon being asked about special considerations to Bubble Gum, Simon explained: "The bubble gum shows a remarkable uniformity in plants grown from seeds. It is a strong and beautiful plant, which grows a heavy stem: you never need to tie heavy buds up. The initial stages of seedlings can be tender, and you have to take care a bit for them in that stage. It is important to not let them be overgrown by neighbouring plants, which may grow faster at first. When about 2 weeks old the Bubble Gum will start to pick up speed and grow as fast as other plants." This delay in growth can be explained by the fact that the BG is an inbred strain and therefore does not have that hybrid vigour effect (faster and stronger growth) of F1 hybrids.
