Wiring my PC

I am building a PC box based on Mr_Micro's nanomachine, and trying to improve on it. One of the things I'm doing is wiring the PC electrical supply directly to a power splitter, the kind that you snap onto a power chord that's been cut (It has teeth on the inside that bite into the rubber and contact the actual wire inside). Anyways I couldnt figure out which side to put with which wire, until I noticed that the directions didn't specify either. So which wire (blue is labeled "N" and brown is "L") goes to which side? The plug for the lightbulb fixture that I have has one nib wider than the other, so I assume that for them it does matter. Could I just cut a larger hole in my power splitter and let the internal ballast on the CFL straighten it out?

Hey welcome to IC. Why not just plug it in? Sorry if I sound like a dick but this sounds very unsafe. Don't cut holes in a power splitter unless you're rather familiar with electrics, to say the least.

What are you trying to improve exactly? The space used? My first pc was similar to the nanomachine and I simply wired on a short female end of an extension cord to the raw power inputs on the back of the pc (where the PSU connects). Then I had a double adaptor with a timer in one socket. Light cord goes to timer, 12v supply goes to the other socket so it runs 24/7. No big power splitter needed and it all fitted in compactly.

I have to agree here, it sounds like a recipe for a visit from the local fd

Yeah thats what I'm doing, instead of having an entire power strip like he did.

Does anyone know about the two different color wires?

Do you even have proper tools such as a multimeter, if not i suggest not fiddling with thing, this is how "accidents" happen.

In case anyone in the future does the same searches as me:

The big side of the plug is N, it goes to the blue wire, and the narrow plug is L, it goes to the brown wire when wiring your PC.
