I did an big thread on this back on HB.net... damn so much info was lost when it went down.:wallbash:

I did multiple tests showing 20/4 lighting is the best to use for healthiest, highest yeilding, and most important most potent plants.:woohoo:

ICC.

Interesting....

Im running ML's right now under 12/12, be done in 4 weeks. they are fat and huge. I doubt i'll waste anymore time throwing them under 20/4.. .

That's good to know. I grow them in my veg box and on more than one occasion needed the room the masterlows were taking up...but didn't want to put them in the bloom box for fear of a poor yield.

Next time the masterlows clog up the veg box I'll throw them into the bloom box and see how they do.

Got any pics?

Yeah i'll get some pics in a few weeks. Remind me. I see no difference in 12/12 and 20/4.. just personal observation.

You know Dr., you're really not contributing jack squat, unlike ICC who has. Yes, it does effect the potency. With autoflowers, more light = more energy = more growth over the long term = more developed THC in the end due to autoflowers using increased lighting not only to create THC but mature it during the final couple of weeks. This difference I think, however, is small. So small that if going 16/8 over 20/4 would save you $$$ every month on energy bills, you might as well do it, because you probably wouldn't notice what I consider 5-10% max more mature (i.e. potent) trichomes in the end.

I used to use longer veg times 20-30 years ago, but now I use 16/8. My theory is that, the faster the plants are growing, the more 'sleep' they need. If you're still a grasshopper and stressing your plants quite a bit, you can use longer days and recoup some lost energy that way. But, when your chops get good and plants are really growing fast and stress free, you need longer nights. Just my theory.

Hi everybody, I just started trying to grow my own this year since my state now approves of medical marijuana usage. When I was just getting started i asked about these autoflowering plants and was warned away from them as not being potent and a waste of time. was I misled? I thought this would be ideal for a medical grower to have a perpetual grow and less hassle of all the science behind the practice of growing pot in doors.

They also seem ideal for those of us in the northern half of North America to grow outdoors in our shortened seasons. Sure would save a lot in electricity if I could plant a small field outdoors and harvest in June/July.

I personally believe the plants need a dark period to do their thing. I'm no botanist, just my personal opinion and experience. I do 20/4.

denial and error are u really saying that autos at 12/12 are about the same as autos at 20/4? i have no idea whats better so im just asking, im in the midst of my first auto run right now, outside.

You have gas data to back this up?
Or
is this just some "Stoner Bullshit"...You have cooked up?
Show me some lab Grade testing or STFU about increasing potency.
I know the potency of many of my strains...Why you say? Because ..
Real Breeders use real testing Methods..
Gas Chromatograph....anything else is Bull-Shit in print
I Have as to this date seen NONE of this data on ANY Autoflower Strain...
Why is that?
Would the truth RUIN the Auto-Flower seed market?

doc i dont know why u hate autos so much,, arent u mr i luv 7 gram micro plants, with autos u can get 3 times that in 60 days from seed. i just smoked some trimmed leaf/bud of a autokush that ill be reaping in 3 more weeks, was shocked how potent it already was. :dueling:

I use 24/0 for the first 2 weeks, then 20/4 for the rest of the cycle.
I grow Diesel Ryders and I have never had a plant show sex later than 15 days from seed. I dont know if the light regiment is a contributing factor.

Most people that grow AF strains are not using enough wattage for the "saved energy" cost to really matter imo. I do like how 20/4 keeps my high temps down a bit better though, and it does seem a bit un natural to give plants 0 dark hours.

I do, however, I know for sure that with the strain I am growing, 12/12 will finish the plant at LEAST a week sooner. I had amber trichs at 55 days on my last harvest that was grown on 12/12 light schedule for a while, whereas ever plant ive grown at 20/4 doesnt start showing amber trichs till about 65 days or more.

Just my 2 cents. And oh yeah, AFs fuckin ROCK!! Piss on anyone who thinks the slightly lower THC% is a huge deal, its still 100000% better than anything you buy in a bag. Plus some strains have claims of 21% or higher now, so you know they are at least close, if not better than some non Af strains. 8 weeks to harvest is just a hard thing to pass up. As I am smoking on my Diesel Ryder thats been cured for a week, I will still have to wait 3-4 more weeks minimum to harvest a non AF plant that was planted before the one Im smoking. Plus I will have another DR to harvest the same time as my non AF harvest. If I only had one grow cab, AF is all i would grow. Cant wait to try a new strain sometime.

Peace

I veg for 16/8 I don't know many places that get 24 or 18 hours of daylight. When my plants get sleepy I let them sleep.

I've grown and smoked Llife Hkush, it is a good potent smoke, tastes and smells great, pine. Couch lock, munchies.

Grew in 8 weeks from seed, low maintenance.

AF's are perfect for a 2 month season, also they tend to be short and easier to hide. I got about 1/2 to 3/4 Oz per plant, but you can grow a shit load in a small space.
