A good organic grow medium rich in humates and bacteria will buffer the pH of your nute solutions, guanos and meals. Here is a good mix using coconut coir...

LC’s Soiless Mix #1:
5 parts Coir
3 parts perlite
2 parts wormcastings or mushroom compost or home made compost
Powdered (NOT PELLETIZED) dolomite lime @ 2 tablespoons per gallon or 1 cup per cubic foot of the soiless mix.

Get your soil right and use a quality organic food for your plants and you'll have great success.

thanks for the info burnone, that mix sounds good i will probably have to order some of that lime i can only find the peletized lime around my area.what kind of nutes do you use for flowering? i was thinking of useing roots organics liquid bat guano and some pure blend pro.

search in this thread...Post #1 and find one of Burn1's flowering tea recipe's....you wont need much else......I would stick to those spec's and see where it takes you and add or subtract as the plant tells you to.....read what the plant is doing while using that recipe....you can do what I do and always grow an extra plant on the side and use it as my "test" plant.....that will be the plant that I give stronger/weaker tea's to or water more/less often.....play around and make it your own but keep the base the same.

I'm currently using a coir mix with the following:

10 parts coir
4 parts Pro-Mix(for moisture retention)
4 parts mushroom compost(be careful this stuff varies from region to region!)
1 part composted manure and humus(Scott's brand)
1 part fine clay
1-1.5 tbsp bone meal per gallon
1 tbsp dolomite lime per gallon
1-2 tbsp Espoma "Flower-Tone"

This is my latest mix. I used to use blood meal too, but stopped for many good reasons, there are better sources of nitrogen. This mix should not really ever need feeding during the flower cycle. I was wary at first about how much fertilizer was in it, but the plants all seem to really be loving it. I also ditched perlite completely. It's messy, doesn't stay where you put it in the mix, and the coir seems to be providing plenty of drainage. When you mix it up though, you have to make really sure the mixing is thorough. Clumps of manure are bad, try to get it all finely mixed.

It's not precisely vital what exact mix you're using, but as long as you make sure you use water with no chlorine, it should buffer itself for pH and deliver nutrients adequately. Don't get too hung up on NPK either though, organics is a very different world like that.

thanks for all the info, their are a few brands that make coco the only kind i can get in the area i live is botanicare is thier any advantage to useing any of the other brands out there like atami or roots organics.

as long as its rinsed now worries its all the same. depending on how long you veg, look out for cal/mag issues I have found that cannabis grows so fast if fast drying coco that it sometimes will show cal/mag def even with dolomite lime. Just keep some cal/mag on hand in case you see signs of def.

I get my coco at Petco. It's Zoo Med's "Eco Earth". I've had surprisingly good results with the stuff.

Magic had me excited, because I've never used coco by reason of not being able to find it.

Took me forever at petco to figure out where it was: reptiles. It's used for bedding! Now I am using it for my worms.

^ make sure you wash that as salts are high

I use a laundry bag for special clothes with easy success to wash coco without losing any of it or messing around with trying to gather it up from a bucket

Toasy: no difference in brands, i've used botanicare with good results, just make sure to wash as there's is high in salts. good luck as there is not many organic coco grows going on

great info,i just have the 6 inch x 6 inch coco cubes that come in a poly bag and u just add a gallon of water to hydrate it,i did try to grow in the 8 x 8 cubes but it showed cal mag problems and grew too fast and too tall that was like a year ago i was useing an`s monkey juice i think my problem was i wasnt using the cal mag after i hydrated the coco with it,i feel more confident this time around

^ yeah, if having problems or having not much experience in coco, if I can suggest doing a soil grow next to it so you make sure your time was worth something

coco is nothing like soil , and needs to be treated like its own medium. that's good your loading the coco with cal/ mg before hand.

if having mg problems raise the PH, if having ca problems lower the PH

im gonna have to put up a couple of my tents and get some stuff going, just finished smoking all my ak47 and i harvested my mdanzig blueberry but i see some nanners in it,my first plant that threw out the nanners i have to say im not surprised cause i never seen a full grow report on this strain on this site so that left me thinking i might have some problems

Not refuting your claim here but i have been growing with Bot coco for over 5 years and never flushed or washed it once.....I was told by a few local old growers that Bot coco has zero salts in it......I also did a search and found a few sites saying the same thing......to be safe, you should always flush it out before doing a grow......just wondering if you have them confused with another brand or maybe I have just been really lucky..
