Formal charges to be filed against Blountsville man

ARAB - Arab police say a traffic stop Monday night led to the discovery of a large indoor marijuana farm in Blount County.

Peter Akins Collins, 47, of Timmerman Road, Blountsville, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after Arab police officer Cass Lambert stopped him on Brashiers Chapel Road Monday night.

Lambert said he found jars with a small amount of marijuana, a large amount of cash and a ledger that contained weights and prices of apparent drug sales. Arab police Sgt. Scotty Watson said he called Blount County authorities Tuesday and they came to Arab to question Collins and further search his vehicle.

After a search warrant was obtained, officers went to Collins' home at the end of a dead end road in the Royal community and found marijuana growing in a mobile home next to Collins' residence.

"We discovered 150 to 170 plants growing and 20 to 30 pounds (of marijuana) being processed," said Watson. "He had a cache of weapons, over 20 M-16s, AR-15s, sniper rifles, pistols and stacks of ammo. There were more price lists and addresses to go with it. He was doing business in a relatively large area, including Arab and Marshall County." A meth lab also was found.

Collins was to be transferred to the Blount County jail.

Blount County Sheriff Loyd Arrington said Wednesday that formal charges will be filed today. He said investigators planned to interview Collins again Wednesday night in Arab. "It will be some serious stuff," he said. "I expect trafficking and cultivation, but there will be a stack of them. We'll sit down with the district attorney Thursday morning and discuss it."

Cops call anything a meth lab. One could have some cold pills and paint thinner, and automatically it's a meth lab, and it could be any other number of regular household items that they deem evidence. That's probably bullshit just to add more charges so when it's time for a plea bargain they can be harder on him..

Last few weeks I've received several generous offers for sharing genetics. Broke my heart to say no for security reasons. Still does but, this ... "There were more price lists and addresses to go with it." is why.

If I can't keep my own secrets, I can't expect anyone else to.

I suspect the traffic stop was not routine and they knew what was going on with him and you can bet they had search warrants if he didn't concent. Its safer for the cops to pull him over in a car rather than go to the house not knowing what awaits them. I almost bet he was under surveilance for some time. :2cents:

dude had a wide network of cohorts. that was his biggest liability. surveillance? possibly, but you're likely giving the cops too much credit. most people get busted for stupid slip-ups and other people rolling over, or general public reporting suspicious activity.

I know someone who got popped with a n02 tank for racing and they initially charged him with operation of a meth lab. that is negligent slander in my opinion.

I hope your right for his sake and the cops were negligent and didn't use the proper channels to make a legit bust. I believe to many people knew what the deal was and somebody rolled and walked for a bigger fish and or the neighborhood reporting. I just know that normally when a bust leads back to the persons house they knew what was in there in the first place. I smell a Rat! Stupid slip-up , possibly but doubtful and the only reason i say that is cuz they did go to the house. Don't get me wrong the cops fu*k up on a regular basis and there is no question about that. His wide network and a RAT is more likely the root cause. IMO

yeah, each person you bring into your circle multiplies your risk factor.

and my post didn't really make sense - i cited people rolling over, but such things bring about surveillance, at least momentarily before a stop and pop.

also, I was saying the offender often has a slip up, not the police (though cops screw up all the time). I hope the cops screwed up, because it sounds like they are going to throw the book at him.

good luck RavenWarrior!

The traffic stop led to a search warrant because He had jars of weed and a large sum of cash in the car, more than enough to get a warrant for the home. It could of been speeding or running a stop sign, something simple that started the domino's tumbling.

LESSON: Don't keep records of ANYTHING!! Burn after reading, its not just a movie title.

Peace...
