Paying it forward.... the journal

Well guys, here's my first journal here, hope you enjoy it. When asked if interested in growing some P-91 x Ortega (reversed) and looking for a special pheno to share back with the community I jumped at the chance.

This is how these seedlings were described in an earlier post by the breeder when talking about the P91 mother:

I'm going to have a BUNCH of seeds from her fathered by my "3rd Floor" Ortega( sts reversed). I'm hoping my amigo will be willing to run a few of the new cross so I can work through the beans a little faster looking for that keeper mom. I see a FAT yielding, stupefying indica coming fromm the cross.

Went down today and met at PNC to pick up seedlings which are about a week old today, and I'm off and running. Eventually this strain will be offered there, it's going to be fun working on the selection process. They were germed then started in rockwool cube, had nice set of roots on all 3.

Planted in 16 oz cups with FF Light Warrior soil. Will use FF Grow big for veg, H&G Flowering stage, OF soil for flowering.

Veg 4x8 t5 x 8 bulbs 20/4, will move into growhut under 1k hps

These should all be females, their mother is P-91, the pollen was donated by a reversed Ortega clone. I'll try to keep regular updates and if any of the other amigos growing these out want to share jump right in.

Very Nice GG,
I have one sprout of the P91xOrtega I'll be doing in soil and come fall will be doing a full hydro run. I know the Ortega side can be done as a huge single cola or more medium sized buds if trained. How did you plan on growing yours?

Thanks guys, I'd swear these babies have grown noticably in 24 hours!! I'd say they have had a great start.

GT, since I'm going to be saving cuts from each of these I'll let them veg until I can get nice cuts from the top/main cola, get them rooted and see what they decide to do. I like bushy plants with a nice clean trim below, maybe they'll oblige! Hopefully will have to do as little tieing down and support as possible. My straight up P-91's have turned into seroius bushes once they were topped, it will be interesting to see the Ortega influence.

Can already tell by the leaf shape that the Ortega has already shown some of it's character!

Very nice :joint:

I am going to sprout some beans and want to put them in rock wool. Can you tell me about the one your holding in the pix? I am thinking I will soak the RW in 5.6PH water only and then put in the seed after the have opened up in a paper towel. I plan on throwing them in my cloning humidy dome under a low wattage florescent. I have no problems getting clones to root in this dome so I figured it would be good for my new sprouts.

BTW may be driving to SD this weekend! I love having great friends around the country

Peace :abduct:

As a SD native I am definitely going to check this one out. Can't wait to see how this turns out!

Why risk stressing the tap root, germ directly in the cube, less risk of mold, overwatering, etc... Paper towel method kills seeds and is for people who have no faifth in their seed, there are no wet towels in nature

Hey Lysol,
The germ on those seeds was a comedy of errors. Started off with me harvesting the seeds too soon ( before the herb was crispy dry) & cracking over 1/3 of them. I was happy that these sprouted at all since they were some of the cracked ones that I germed without a post harvest rest. I havent worked with seeds much and it's been a couple years at that. Ive got a nice collection of uncracked beans that I'm looking forward to sprouting directly in soil/coco.

Peace

GT, that Ortega IS the opposite of the P-91 in structure, it's been awhile since I've seen a cola that dense!! NICE :) Do you ever worry about bud rot with her?

The only time I've had mold / bud rot on the ortega is if a fan leaf thats part of the cola dies and i fail to remove it. i typically do the chunky indicas so I'm always on the look out for mold. My first strain i grew was Sweet tooth #3 and it's a mold magnet.

Oh...just a tip....I've found viewing my plants under 6500K cfls ( no other light source) really helps me find things like mold & powdery mildew when theyre at early early stages

Peace

As of 1pm today, there were 5 more of the P91 x "Third Floor" Ortega ( reversed) seedlings available for FREE adoption at Peoples Nursery (PNC ) in Sorrento Vally ( San Diego )

Peace & happy Growing

Had a great time in SD this weekend. If only I could live near the beach again. My Purple Kush is 75% Indica, I'm pretty sure you would approve. At least I can still find amazing San Diego beer.

Peace, :joint:

I have a total of 3 seedlings, but did not hatch them myself. GrowTech has started several seed that were accidentally cracked at harvest time, these are from those seed. He's making more of them available through PNC hoping that between us all we'll find a pheno or two that is worth saving.

Thanks for the watching, these babies are growing like weeds. While vegging I'm not sure how often I should update everyone, if I notice anything special I'll make note of it.

Here's the pics that I took this evening, 8 days after the last were taken in the first post. The side pics are of all 3, it was a bit hard trying to shoot between their leaves. I was trying to share the branching already too.
