my experience with dutch customer service was average at best. I know a place as popular as Barney's probably has a lot of horror stories, but I found a good crowd of employees there, plus a dude from Israel who was close with the employees - we packed one after another in the volcano while other tourists hovered nearby, hoping for a piece of the action.

The stores are much too small for the amount of traffic they receive, but thats just the way it is.

Comparatively, Dutch service is B.S. after you've been treated to service from the U.S. Especially if you stick out like a tourist.

At another shop, Dampkring - I asked the bud tender why their powerplant was indica dominant and he responded by pulling out as many different buds as he could and asking me if I could tell the difference. I said yes, and he spoke down to me, "we have a true marijuana master here!" O.kay buddy, just give me some John Sinclaire so I don't have to see your bald head anymore.

Hey weahterboxes , when in belgium you should check out shops called frituur.

They sell belgian fries(not french fries) with lot's of snacks and types of burgers.

I recommend a big portion of fries with sweet mayonaise on top(yes ON thefries) and curry ketchup , with a maxicano snack and a frikandel

mmmmm good munchie food

I must admit Dutch coffeeshop vendors can be rude, and totally ignorant about the products they're selling. They're low paid, unskilled workers after all,
But hey, I live in Paris, and here rudeness and arrogance is several notches up on the official, standard bitch-level, so who am I to complain about A-dam?
Amsterdam tourists generally want to stay smack in the old central city, and here the buildings are old, worn down, windows are hard to open and the toilet's often just a furnished closet (they were built before there were water closets and electricity, imagine that). If you can't live with that for a week or two, then take an hotel outside the old city, in a more recent building, you'll see they're just as good as home.

Having seen the way some tourists treat the coffeeshop staff i'm not surprised they are sometimes rude to us. If i puked up on your rug, left the tables filthy and pee'd myself then scuttled off i'm sure you'd be pissed too! lol

If you go to coffeeshops in or near the red light area you have to expect somewhat tourist-area like service..the tourists are not all nice and the staff respond in kind.. Go to coffeeshops that are not in the tourist areas and be nice..they will be nice back..
Peace

ive had a few not so nice experience's when dealing with the vendors, especially a certain worker in the dampkring who just treats everyone with contempt! but if these people want to conduct theirselves in such a manor then thats their problem, they must have issues within themselves!
i think if u still conduct yourself as normal & dont swoop to their level, i vowed never to go in there again but there menu is awsome & i aint shooting myself in the foot just because someone conducts themselve with no honour!!
( i did feel like tearing the dudes windpipe out though)

I've had some interesting coffeshop visits in Maastricht. One shop that sells breakfast I sat around for 40 minutes waiting for the waitress to come over and she never did, just chatting with friends. I really don't understand how you can have a business anywhere in the world and expect to make money by treating people like crap. News flash the people you treat like crap are there to give you money!!

for those in the know the dutch phrase for this is "gezellig" it's allegedly a favorite dutch passtime.

you waited 40 minutes for service! lol...i get uppity after about 2 minutes

so if you are in a place and you are not getting service, simply go up to the bar and order it, that's what I do

always start off with "Oh, I'm sorry to bother you, I would like a cup of..."

and for those people who look upon every tourist with contempt, ridicule and rudeness, the best way is to say "thank you for serving me" or " thank you for being my servant" with a big smile on your face, like you know the punchline but he doesn't, then leave

It understandable if coffee shops require patrons to at least buy a drink if they sit down, but they shouldn't throw you out if want to smoke bud bought elsewhere if you are drinking their juice...that's unreasonable, what they should do to encourage higher spending per customer is to raise their minimum charge per customer so it encourages buyers to sit there, buy a gram or two and smoke their bud...while cheap bastards will walk in, see the minimum charge and walk out or stay and buy two coffees.

I haven't been to Am'dam for years, do coffee shops have minimum charges now?

i miss Amsterdam...I've only been there a few times, but have many fond memories.
