Hello Everyone,

Just needed to know if I can some expert advice since I´ve been growing at 18/6 lighting, but was wondering if I can grow at 24 hr lighting thru vegatative growth. Does that effect the plant in its´s natural form other than making it grow all 24 hours. Do they need to have 6 hrs dark period... ???

Thanks much,

Cannabyte

During the dark cycle the plant puts it energy into root development. Some prefer a 24 hr lighting cycle while others use a 18/6 cycle. I would stay on 18/6 if its working good for you.

my question is. When do you start the lighting cycle, after the first set of stems or 3rd or ????????
As soon as they break the surface you start, just making sure you're not too close to hurt them but close enough to prevent stretch.

lloyd - I'm not sure I understand the question. You should obviously have some sort of lighting cycle from the get-go...

My clone/vegging area is permanently on 18/6. Some would probably germinate seedlings and root clones on 24/0 but in my setup it is more convenient to keep this whole section on 18/6.

In my experience 24/0 results in much denser plants. 18/6 probably grows about as much total foliage though, it's just stretchier. I prefer 24/0 for my perpetual veg chamber. It's easy to maintain, I like that.

i use 24 for mums and clones and then 18/6 for vegging up. i like to have the lights off for the hottest part of the day and also the plants will begin to flower a little quicker if they have been vegged under 18/6 because there will be higher levels of the flowering hormone in them already due to the 6 hour dark period.

According to Ed Rosenthal a 24 hour light period has only beneficial effects. The main advantage being more growth due to more light.

Ya, I have wondered about it as well, always used 24hr myself, seems just fine. I am sure the difference is marginal, and it is probably just what is easiest for you personally. Could depend on light too, I use 2 4ft floros to veg moms and clones. I have used 400wMH before as well, no complaints.

I've always stuck with 18/6.... my thoughts on this are as follows:

24/24 might show slights signs of increased growth/production it really isn't simulating nature. I love how this is mother nature's plant and I just can't take that away from MJ..IMO

sorry people got a little busy. Just changed out my rez,the temp's,ph are all fine ,and I decided to do the 18/6 of lighting and my babies are doing really good. lots of rooting. I've got my scrog about 9in above the tops, and dropped the light down about 1in. above the scrog

Wow plants always seem to grow the most if you measure em during dark cycles vs day cycles. I use 20/4 personally, six off always seemed a little long.
