Hi ICMAG,

Need some advice and couldn't think of a place better suited to ask, im looking to start a new grow soon and am going to be growing in 4 gallon pots with soil. Now in the past ive just used horizontal reflectors as that's the most popular way to grow and i was advised while learning to start that way.

Now that im moving onto 4 gallon pots and am vegging from clone for 6weeks what lighting arrangement should i use? or what would you do for example

1. Just grow the plants big as they will be after 6 weeks veg top them constantly to try and get as many multiple tops at the top end of the plant and use a grostar hood? would a diamond or something be better for deeper light penetration with this method?

2. Hang the bulbs vertically in between 4 pots and rotate the pots every 3 days when watering.

I was considering number two but keeping in mind i only have 600w lights to play with, i was thinking maybe hanging one light in between 4 plants but maybe there wont be enough lumens, maybe a 1000w would be better? also i don't like to scrog so that's out the question i prefer to let the plants grow naturally.

Oof, 6 weeks veg, why so long? I have some plants I vegged for 1-2 weeks that are 3-4 feet tall in late flower, but I decided recently that I want to grow bud, not plants.

For 3-4 foot tall plants you need a 1000w bulb to penetrate to the lower portion of the canopy, a 600w just can't go that deep.

Oh, and use a Radiant reflector (tighter light pattern) and no, don't use a vert bulb.
