So I've planted 6 JEMs in soil, and 6 LowAsis x Jems as well, all in my new, big, fat TV cab. :joint:

Let us hope this goes better than my current DWC. :mad:



They are in miracle grow moisture control soil with a little extra perlite and a couple hand fulls of earthworm castings. Each is in it's own peat puck, already in the soil. 1.5 gallon pots.

I dont know how they will react with the Miracle soil, they dont like chem newts. i hope it goes ok. that soil is on my worst soil ever list, compared to Happy Frog or Ocean Forest. That stuff, is some of the best, perfect for organic base growing. Will be watching for updates.

While it's not the best option, miracle grow is available everywhere. Also, MDanzig (blustreak, masterlow, sour60) uses the same moisture control stuff for all his grows.

Moisture control is okay when nothing good is available, but I hate anything with time released ferts. I agree HF and OF are the way to go.

:p I've never been a soil connoisseur, and have used MG soil from my very first soil run until now. NEVER had a problem. The time release ferts only really last 3 weeks or so with cannabis, after that you've got to feed yourself anyway. Not like the capsules are still popping after 4 weeks of watering. Of all the soil available for purchase locally in my area, it's the cheapest, most fortified, least-wood-having mix. In fact I've never SEEN OF or FF soil for sale in stores, I was always under the impression you had to order it online. F that.... I'm not having soil delivered.

All hydro stores sell it. If you don't have a hydro store within hours of where you live then I guess MG it is.

ya KC,, you have to go to your local hydro store. they will have all that good soil, I just planted 32 FEM LR#2,, 16 in HappyFrog, and 16 in Ocean Forest, to do a little comparison to see what I want to do in my next 400 Watt AF SOG. So, far Happy Frog is doing better, but very early on, will take another week or so to figure it out.

How much did that MG soil cost you? and what the amount of soil you get in liters, it will say on the bag.?

Ahhh, you have to love a nice, easy germ. All 12 are looking fine. 8 popped after 48 hours, 2 in 72, and the last two came up after 96. So, for averages sake lets just say this is Day 5 for all of them.

I went ahead and put sand on the top to discourage those damn fungus gnats. BOY do I hate those bastards.

well at least you mixed it as it is very heavy i think without anything added to it. hope it turns out ok,, the plants grew ok that where in it, but no ware near the growth of proven soil. But, that Gnat infestation was crazy, had them 3 weeks after planting, and the took over very fast. This was in a greenhouse. So they where hard to get rid of once they took over.

what newts are you going to use?

i'm going to use fish emulsion and liquid karma before flowering and then big bud and over drive for flowering.

So, things have been progressing well, they look like they are about to take off.



So, about half have one or two 'twisty' leaves, very common for almost all AF i've grown in soil or dro. Two LowAsis x Jems are runts with two twisty leaves each, but they are now kicking off like the rest. I probably won't let them go to term, but for now, they are alive. Two LowAsis x Jems males sexed at Day 11, damn, that's the fastest I think I've EVER seen an AF male sex by about 5-6 days and they both are stunning specimens, VERY vigorous and fast growth:



I'd say if no more males sex in 3-4 days I may be looking at a buttload of fems... yay!

i tested a few beans now too, and so far there are 2 phenos,, males at 10-14 days, and males at 17-20 days. At about a 70-30 ratio. So, i hope you get all those females, you have a good chance. I have no clue where the 10-14 day trait has come from ,, it must be from the original LR1 that was used to make LowAsis 5 yrs ago, it showed sex at day 14. LowAsis shows sex around day 17-21,,, JEMS show around day 21-24. So, that LR1 fast sexing trait must have become dominant again due to the cross back to another LR hybrid.

I will work with this one to see how it turns out,, F2s are being made soon ,, should be interesting plant in the F2s,, i want to find a LowAsis type plant with just highlights of color. I can see the rainbow!

Well got a little giddy a little early: another LowAsis x Jem male showed today along with two jem males. I'm HOPING no more show, and that I have at least 5 good fems (two LowAsis x Jems and 3 JEMs), not including the runts, which will probably get the big chop this weekend.

This does work kind of in my favor, considering I wasn't going to have room to try my DWC attempt again unless I was able to get 6 or so plants out of there. So, we'll wait a few more days, but I think I'll be isolating the best LowAsis x Jem male and the best Jem male in my seperate grow locker. Kill the rest of the males, kill the runts, and I should be able to fit my new 10 gallon res in there along with the remaining soil fems.

Well the excess males were killed off, and the rest showed as female. 3 fem Jems and 2 fem LowAsis x Jems. The best male of each was kept around in a separate area.
