Your legalization scenario

What's your vision? Short term/long term, whatever.

I'm almost certain that with pot being legalized wine country will quickly turn into grass country, or at least most of the newer entrepreneur type vineyards will quickly take up herb. Nationwide pot will probably be iffy, but I'm sure dank will be the norm (still) in California. Hopefully the learning curve isn't too steep for all the former do-gooders.

I hope I live to see genetically modified cannabis. Ungodly potency could abound in those waters. I also hope I live to see imported hash in the US, I don't doubt this will also come with legalization.

From my own selfish viewpoint I hope the status quo is held for at least a few more years, but when legalization comes it will bring only good and hopefully that will leave me with a place in the industry.

Another thought of mine is wariness of the sudden change in climate, you gotta wonder if the man isn't trying to pacify us into deeper complacency with herb... But fuck, what can we do about it really?

You know your a real (Stoner) marijuana lover when you dream of legalization

imo there is no need for genetically modified cannabis,
and I'm not even sure legalization will happen, I don't let myself get excited, i'd rather accept the fact that we gotta hide to smoke

it could happen for sure, and it could be very magical
we can only hope, I don't even smoke that often anymore

If California successfully legalizes, this will be likely to strengthen existing grass-roots support for legalization in other liberal states. Once it becomes legal in California, those other states start to look at the potential revenue, and introduce legalization bills as well, especially the states which already have medical marijuana. This is especially likely to occur in the short term if California implements full legalization and taxation of marijuana.

Nationwide, I would expect a very slow uphill battle. There are powerful lobby forces with lots of money who are going to fight legalization tooth and nail - Cops, prison industry, drug cartels, etc. But if grass-roots support is strong enough, politicians eventually must roll over and approve legalization, otherwise they alienate their constituents and do not get re-elected.

Demographics being what they are, baby boomers leave work and want cannabis again, both to beat the boredom in retirement and for medical use. Add the 18 to 30ish age group of regular users, and it all strengthens existing grass-roots support. Politicians are pushed hard enough by their constituents, and eventually they have to approve legalization, in liberal states.

The federal government reaction to California legalization will also be a large determining factor. The feds aren't going to like it. Should make for an interesting show.

This is what I'm kinda worried about. It's been said that if cannabis were fully legalized the feds would lose money trying to keep their dicks in the profits, which is why it's always been illegal. I just hope if a legalization bill passes that it doesn't ruin what we already have, you know? Would be a damn shame for us to take a step forward and two steps back :joint:

I`m sure "another phillip morris" will win over support... LOL....

Responsible Legalization.....

30,000 dispensaries nationwide employing 200-300,000 people
500,000-1 mill small independent "green farmers"
1000`s of new glass shops and glass artists employed
Billions of tax dollars to pay for health care ect....
Mandatory Hemp production...

My legalization scenario,
We're in 2012, there's the ascencion to the 4th dimension (don't know shit about it but seems amazing) and the humans can no longer lie. We get conscious about our real spirit selves and we understand the purpose of our lives.
Finally, cannabis will be just a regular supplement on our healthcare because we'll be too damn busy enjoying the truth behind the pharmaceutical world and not the money.

That's what my dream legalization scenario.

I wanna make weed like wine. Classify it by region. or indoor. have quality standards to be considered a true dank rating. Really market the good weed and hash, to make sure the market doesn't fall to big tobacco, or alcohol.

I don't see an overnight legalization. If it's going to happen, it'll happen in steps over the coarse of a few years with decriminalization first.

If it is legalized on an individual level, and viewed as an agricultural crop capable of being traded and sold as a commodity, greed will take control for a while. Millions will pop seeds in the ground of their back yards hoping to make a quick fortune, only to find that they know jack about the process. Inferior male pollen will pollute the atmosphere and ruin pedigree strains. The first autumn will see a market flooded with everyone's first crop.

Over time, most people will lose interest in growing their own. Big aggro will get their claws in it and start producing commercial products (packs of joints etc.) so most people will just let the big guys do it for them.

If it is taxed by the clone or seed and regulated as a non-commercial crop there will be a different story. Remove the penalties for growing and smoking pot, but maintain commercial law over it. In other words, you can't sell it; much like moonshine today.

A new market targeting apartment dwellers, small home dwellers, and other tight living spaces to allow these people to grow their own. Strains would be preserved, and with an open legal environment the development of strains and technology would go warp 8.

Either way, pot is already an integral part of our society. The smokers will keep on smoking and the growers will keep on growing.

this is sounds on the money.

I think like wine, High quality weed and hash will still be made by small organic growers.

There is no reason why marijuana can't be regulated when tobacco and alcohol is, two things much more physically damaging than marijuana.
