Quick question

Say I just wanted mushrooms in my room because they look awesome, could I have a fish tank filled with shrooms that I picked every once in a while, but never fully harvested? Like, when I want some I pick em, but when they die off eventually (or do they?) would they re-colonize and send up another generation of caps? Or do they need new substrate?

Hope that question makes sense.

kind of but not really...

you'll be able to pick mushies off every day or every few days when their veils break and the cap opens...but that will only last a few weeks. in between flushes of mushies the cakes will get kind of spent so you can dunk them in water overnight to rehydrate them. You could do a sort of perpetual harvest where you inoculate jars every few days and take fully colonized cakes and put them in your tank the same day, but that sounds like a bitch to time out because each cake has their own time frame..if that makes sense. you could always try it

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of having them more as like a decoration since I like acid more, I just think the shrooms look cool as fuck when you're high/tripping. I'll probably end up keeping a few cakes in my room anyways, never hurt to have a doomer stash for a rainy day.

Does anyone else call them doomers? I can't remember where I heard it but it's the coolest fucking word.

I've done straw logs that had very long flushes, but never had any luck with repeated flushes using cakes.

You would need to use new substrate after a few flushes.. All the food for the mycelium gets expelled.. I wouldn't use cakes.. I never reccomend them. Even for a 1st timer grains are just as easy.. Using a bulk substrate is easy too..
