Clones - how much time?

Hey guys, just did a quick snip up of some lower branches on a few blue cheese about 10-12 days into flower.

This was my first attempt cloning with a rooter concentrate that requires water dilution.

I don't expect them to root really, because I just kind of 'winged it' - but they're standing tall after 4 days. I have read that I should give up to 2 weeks to root cuts that were starting flower, so I will keep them in the rapid rooters with a light mist 1-2 times a day.

I was wondering if it was a good sign that the leaves and stems are remaining strong, or if thats just normal and not necessarily to be taken as a sign that the cuttings will root.

Yes. You want strength from your plant. Did a good job so far. Post flix.

IME, I don't think you can really tell from looking at the leaves/stem etc. They usually all look pretty similar to me until real vegetative growth begins. In fact, they still look healthy on top usually when I ultimately find out that they never rooted.

In rapid rooter plugs I usually have roots poking through within 5-7 days.In my mini bubble cloner with no rooting hormone just scarification I have rooted clones in as little as three days.

The only way to really tell if the clones rooted, is when the leaves start to turn yellow if they are in plugs and your giving them plain water. This yellowin means that roots have formed and the clone is needing nitrogen.
They should root tho, when you get clones off a 2 week old flowering plant it takes about 5-7 days longer than when you clone a vegging plant.

The whole trick to cloning is keeping the cuttings alive long enough for them to grow roots. So, as long as the cutting are standing up you are on the right path. You'll see the roots when they start growing out of the Rapid Rooter and that's when you should put them in your grow medium.

Haha, good question Boyee! I was just coming to thank everyone, including JJ scorpio for his awesome tutorial!

I saw roots 7 days in on 4 out of 8 clones - 3 are replanted, so cool to see roots poking out of a stem I cut off of a plant! Always thought things like cloning and hydro were beyond me - looks like its time to reconsider.

I don't have pics - but just imagine a rapid rooter with white roots coming out.

For those who haven't tried cloning, you really need to - its SO easy.
I did all my cuttings in a rush, cut the 45 degree angle with scissors and dipped in a rooting dilution not knowing if I had the right amount of rooting hormone mixed. Just put em in the plugs and sprayed every day. My humidity dome was cling wrap - pretty ghetto and never expected anything from it. I will add my temps probably helped out at 73-80 degrees.

Now I have these genes for another run, awesome!

yellowing is not a direct indication that the cut rooted.

this could also mean that you have to intense of light, the cut HASNT rooted and is resorting to taking nutrients from the leaves.

In SOME cases you can think of it like your the cut and your planning a trip. You know that your not gonna be able to eat for a long time on this trip. So your gonna pack as much food as you can to last you the next 10days. In this case the cuts food is the leaves. Healthy leaves will give the edge for quicker & successful rooting.

One important thing i never see mentioned, is it all starts with a healthy mom. Proper amounts of phosphorus in the cut is key.

This was a very good experience. All out of 10 have rooted except for 2 that were cut a couple days after.

What's better is I could give some clones away - had a hell of a time breaking off the rapid rooter to put it in a friend's hydro setup though!

I was lent a small tub with a net pot and some hydroton and am now testing a first time hydro experience with a beginner setup as well. Its basically a 2 gallon tub with a hole cut in its top to accommodate the net pot filled with hydroton - just got an aquarium fish pump, put an air stone on and stuck it in the water - this will apparently grow a plant so long as I change the water every week or 2 - we shall see!

blue cheese has such nice scents - the clones gave off a little whiff of blueberry skunk when handled. Very psyched to keep improving and keep learning.
