Could be slight salt build up or chloramine. Do you use tap water?

Im not sure about well water. Theres alot of threads about salt build up and chloramine on here dude. Have a browse about. Check out the hand watering coco thread on the stickys aswell. Everything you need to know is in there i guarantee it. Its a long read but very informative and interesting. Hope this helps.

sounds like algae, caused by the medium being exposed to light,i don't know how you would go about covering it up tho....its pretty common in hydro systems.

i've never grown with coco,so i'm just going by what the description sounds like

good luck

At first i thought it was salt build up but after a few flushes i was still having the same problem. Then i read it could be calcium carbonate. Suposedly when hard water is treated (pH down) the calcium bicarbonate precipitates out as calcium carbonate chalk. Its not meant to be that bad for the plant but it can react with fresh feed and hold some chemicals back. As it's a physical deposit you have to scrape it off. As my nutrients buffer my PH perfectly i dont hav to use PH down anymore and i havnt had a problem since.
