i have pretty severe anxiety and what works best for me are strain that are "slightly" sativa dom. my current anxiety med is skunk #1. No need to knock yourself down with the star just to relieve a little anxiety.

Good Luck with your health

Most people will say "heavy indica" but I've seen anecdotal evidence that some indies can induce an anxiety response, and some sativas have better anti-anxiety effects.

I, for one, would choose a non-racy sativa over a heavy indica.

First these are my opinions, don't take it as scientific please. it's either personal experience, anecdotal, heresay, or a combination of.

I think of those THC pills on the legal market. Everybody hates them because pure THC makes you feel like shit. Reports seem to vary from "didn't get me high" "made me feel nervous" and "made me feel depressed". That makes me think a strain with a lower ratio of THC to other cannabinols might be better for feeling calm.

I think an indica/sativa hybrid would work. Read strain descriptions and grower reports and find out everything you can about a strain. Research the parent stock and see if there's anything in the hybrid that is labeled "energetic" "racy" "electric" "powerful". I'd stay away from these key words at first. You don't want potency, you want a quality high, nothing dirty or edgy.

Or you could buy more than one strain with a range of effects to really nail down what does what for you. Try heavy indicas like Sensi Star, mostly sativa hybrids like Skunk#1, mellow indicas like Hindu Kush, something euphoric like Blueberry or Bubble gum, and something mentally stimulating like Satori or Flo. But do the research.

Also some tips for people with anxiety problems:

Don't take huge hits. Hit it like you would a cigarette with a small puff, then inhale a mouthful of smoke.

Don't hold in the smoke for very long. Holding it in is popular because it intensifies the high, giving you the most bang for your buck (black market, prohibition....)

Sample any new strain by taking one hit and putting it down to see how it will affect you. Nothing is worse for the anxiety prone than smoking a fat joint with someone and later having a crazy intense, edgy, racy, palpitating, confusing high creep up on you.

I have to second BDH as a really mellow alert high w/o the thump like calimist.

Sativa dominant for sure; however, nice on the nerves. Relaxe breathing..full breaths more O2 vs. Indicas that produced a repressed airway effect less O2 more sleepy.

Ultimately it could be said that one experiences little anxiety during non-wake periods (excluding dreams), so....i guess it's a matter how functional you wanna be.

BTW, I think high CBD/CBN weed vs high THC produces more ito nuerochemical activity like serotonin (speculation of course)

Its easier perhaps to make a list of strains to stay away from if you deal w/ Anxiety:

Here's a start of Anxiety no-no's (for me)

Calimist
Grape APE
Trainwreck (for me)
Bullrider (you will be on your ass and anxious LOL)
Some of the Hazes

these were all "thumpers" for me

As somebody who has been treated for anxiety with pharmacueticals and now with herb, I would agree that an indica sativa hybrid works best for me. At first I went with the Indica only advice, but I found that some of the really heavy indicas would induce a "Oh shit I am really high" anxiety, when I was couch locked. The less racy sativas give me that happy clear headed effect. I think the advice about small initial hits and waiting to see the effects before re-medicating is a good idea. I am this way with edibles as well. Keep sampling the perfect medicine for you is definitely out there.

I like your anxiety list. Here is mine:

Awful: AK47, trainwreck

Sometimes bothersome: Double gum, afdream

Enjoyable: sour diesel, blueberry

anti-anxiety: mr. nice

that is most of the strains i have tried when I knew the name for sure... you guys got any recomendations based on that?

I told a guy at a dispensary the other day that some strains cause a lot of anxiety with me. He told me its just bringing out my inner feelings or some such other bullshit. :wallbash:

you really need to just experiment because I have read a few post of strains that cause anxiety in me.....sativa does the trick for me...takes the anxiety right away after a long stressfull day.....but to each his own.

I grow hashberry pretty much only for the rare panic attack I have, it's not the strongest weed but it's just nice chill smoke that always mellows me out.

And it tastes and smells soooo good.
