Experimenting my first ever grow. Any tips?

I'm a usual smoker and one day I found a seed in a bag of weed so I decided to plant it outdoor and experiment it. I'm tight on budget so I'm trying to grow it by spending as little as possible. I live in Vancouver and it recieves about 16 hours of daylight in summer. I'm new to this so any tips would be greatly appreciated.

This was taken few days after it sprouted.

I planted it on the ground but something (like a mouse or bird) kept knocking my plant over.

I repotted it using pot soil until its big enough to put back on the ground but the bottom leaves began turning yellow.

I filled the slurpy cup with water half way and placed the pot on top so that way I can minimize my trips to bring water to the site.

More leaves began turning yellow. The leaves on top are curled up and folded. It's been over a month and it's growing very slowly. Why?

I cut up some spiky vines and placed it around my plant to fend off any animals. The only animals that live in my areas are birds, mouse, squirrels and raccoons.

After a month I still can't determine the sex though my guess is female. It's growing extremely slow but I think it's either too much water or bad soil. Any tips?

If your plant had broken leg before, she will grow up slowly. It is normal IME.
Sometimes it is better to replace slowly growing plants with healthy ones...

Anyway... wish you a girl and happy growing

Dont know your climate . sex wont show here till nearer the equinox 12/12 around september 20 ish odd . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equinox
It could be yellowing and suffering from underfeed after being in a small pot for a month , it might have used all that's in there
Doing well apart from that
Vercumlite holds water . As dose rain crystals or rain gell
It might be best to plant it into the ground with some compost containing moisture rataining ingredients
Best of luck and be carefull out there

Thank you. I did changed the soil and in a week the leaves started to unfold. The leaves stopped dying. I will post some pictures as soon as possible. It's growing very slow but its healthy now.

nice touch making a ring of thorns around the plant........but I don't think that will deter the critters much....maybe put the plant back in the ground and construct a stronger defensive shield out of wire around it untill it can get established better and grows bigger.....

Good luck anyway, always good to see aprentice growers learning about what it takes to get started....

Yeah maybe if I get a job and some income then yeah I'll buy some wired fences but right now I'm just spending as little money as possible.

Here it is..

I changed the soil a week and a half ago and it looks like its healthy now. I ripped off the bottom dead leaves.

I have no idea what sort of strain it is. My friend got this bud from someone. He said it was something like purple haze? I doubt it.

Also the climate is pretty dry, sunny most days (30 degrees) and rains once every 2 weeks so if I plant it on the ground I will have to make a lot of trips just to bring water. Just having some water in the slurpy cup prevents the soil from drying out and that way I can just visit the site once a week. Until it grows bigger I'll just leave it as it is right now.

she looks very happy in the new soil, congrats on giving her a nice home to start in!

keep in mind, you'll need to provide a happy home her whole life, nutritious and secure. Your sunlight is great and the fact you're able to keep her outdoors will give her the best light possible. Good vibes!

Sorry havent updated in a while. Here it is!

copyofdsc09766.jpg

Not much has changed. The leaves are yellow again! It must be the lack of nutrients in the soil.

copyofdsc09782.jpg

It's still growing. I've noticed the leaves are dark green now. I think I'm gonna plant it on the ground soon.

Update!

Not bad. It's big but If I planted it on the ground sooner it could've been a lot taller and bushier.

It's a female. there are tiny white hairs visible.

I had to relocate the plant because someone did walked by and almost spotted it. It is now surrounded by tall grass and wrapped with copper tapes to deter slugs that left the mark on some leaves. I fed it some vegetable flower food and since then the yellowing stopped. Looks like a couple more weeks to go and it's ready. Is this a ruderalis species?

It looks like it has some bug bites, but unless you see tiny black bugs that look like dots on the under-side of your leaves, I wouldn't worry about it.

I highly doubt this is a ruderalis cross. Autoflowering ruderalis strains don't take this long to grow.

I wish you a happy harvest in about 3-4 weeks. Be patient and let her finish before sampling.

ok I got bad news. I havent checked my plant in a week and today I discovered some mold on it.

dsc09848o.jpg

Very nasty. It was like dusty and moldy. I wouldnt want to smoke that. Is the weather just too wet?

dsc09849s.jpg

I cut off the top part just because the molds were forming right below and to test smoke it.

I took some samples of the bud and it doesn't look that ready for harvest. I have to come back to the site and cut off more molds and maybe bring it indoors.

Well Id say you learned a lot from your first grow like many of us before you. I would suggest buying some local genetics or looking at Back Country’s Sticky on outdoor strains and using this to help picking seeds for next season.

More plants equals more chances for success good luck and keep growing.
PEACE
