What's new

coco coir in ebb n flow

:bongsmi:any info on this is greatly appreciated..
i will be doing 28 10 litre buckets under 1200 watts veg 1800 watts bloom
and would like to know,
how many times flooding a day would be a good start point in veg and the same question for bloom ?
also is it really better to use coco nutes or does it not really matter so much?
is it better to mix the coir or use it as is ? if better to mix then with what ?
also as it's going to be flooded from the bottom i would gather it would be good policy to use (flush) plain water one day a week to help reduce salts build up ?
plus anything else that i would need to do for a healthy crop, reguarding nute schedule things like that (taking into consideration good inviroment, room conditions)..
thanks guys.
stay safe.

highvolt,

I have been doing coco in ebb and flow for over two years. on each of my tables, i have 24 1 gallon pots.

In the past I put some coco croutons in the bottom to hold the coco from coming out during the flood and that worked nicely.

My past run I didnt and much of the coco gets out and in the res.

Switching back to croutons in the bottom of the pots plus getting some sponge covers for the drain holes.

With regards to flooding, I do it once per day and it seems to be fine.

In my veg room, I flood twice a day, once at lights on and once 9 hours later. I do the mums twice as they are large plants and seem to like it.

It seems you can never overwater coco, the twice a day feedings are giving them some good oxygen as well.

I also run h202 in the res tanks as well and have air stones in there as well.

Good luck on your grow.

Peace!

Start at one flood and move up from there if the plants want it. That will depend on the totality of conditions, the strain, etc.

And I concur with rifishman that it is hard to overwater coco. It's a great planting medium.

thanks for the imfo rifishman,ljb.
so what type of nutes are you guys using ? any addatives and do you two ever run just h20 for a salts clean out at all ?

I use croutons exclusively and flood 2 times a day lights on, they seem to be liking this routine. They are in 6x6 emily pot containers

nice one dubbalicious.
those emily pots.... is that on tables ?
and i dont want to sound like a thicko but what are croutons ? are croutons another name for coco husk..?

See the grow in my sig, I use 2 gallon smartpots of coco chips and flood only a few times a week for small plants, once a day for large ones (usually a 6" flood)

Hey lazy, nice grow ya got, been subscribed for a while. I dont know about the husks, I know that chips and croutons are basically the same. I run 3 600's in a row over 3x6 tables, straight SOG with 72 per table, and I have side by side rooms on a flip/flop setup, rooms are staggered for monthly harvests, recently made the switch to coco chips, after reading dongle, greyskull and many mores threads

Sounds beautiful man, props to you!

I'm thinking about taking a handful of my smallest clones (and the 3 MOD Juliets that won't flower) and sticking them outside to re-veg, maybe make a late harvest or something. Got a new veggie garden starting in a couple weeks (yeah I'm wicked late) but I have a spare 4X4 tray I was thinking of using outside for lettuce or something in an outdoor coco grow, gonna give it a think here and see what I can manage.

the PPM regime:

Early vegetation 600 ppm
Late Vegetation 1000
Early flower 1200
Late flower 1400

Top feed and drain to waste using Pure Blend Pro (grow and bloom, not both at once) and CalMag+ all the way through. Still experimenting with flushing regime for the very end. Only ever feed with plain water in the middle of the plant's life if it's been wrongly fed with too high ppm and is showing stress.

For Indica dominant strains will use Bcuzz PK 0-13-14 or Humboldt Ginormous 0-18-16 once at the start of the fourth week.
