The "Jar Hash" Method

I was recently making some oil with a friend when he asked me if I had ever made hash. Well I hadn't because I'm uncomfortable with ordering some things off the internet and, I didn't really feel like spending the extra money. It was brought to my attention that there is a way to make hash using the same cold water extraction but you shake it in a jar and filter it. I guess my question is after letting it settle and scooping out the "trash", would a mesh coffee basket or coffee filter be adequate enough? I'm using about 3 ounces of schwag so I'm not expecting the best yield I'm just curious if this method was efficient.
