I have been running an SoG style grow for some time now and I can't seem to get it dialed in the way that I want it. One pass will be great and the next might not be anything at all. Plus it requires alot of plants to keep it on a 2-3 week schedule. SO with that in mind, let me know your input on this change/idea.

SoG set up
1000w HPS
clones rooted within 7-10 days and by day 14 put into flower

Change would be
1000w HPS
300w 6500K CFL veg
clones cut, rooted, and veg in 30 days
then after 30 days from cutting put into flower
no trimming and only topping them once.

The SoG is run every two weeks the vegged ones would be run once a month. This would have a three stage rotation
stage one - clone/veg
stage two - first 30 days of 12/12
stage three - last 30 days of 12/12

Nutes - PBP in R/O water with CalMag
Hand watered Hempy straight perlite bottles and 1/2 gallon buckets for SoG and the others would be in 1 gal buckets.
Oh the strain finishes in 56 days normally but an extra couple days wont hurt it none either.

Input please
change or not????

I don't have the experience of some of the others on here, but I can tell you this. If you can't get your SoG dialed in, and you feel like experimenting with the 3 week veg, the worst that can happen is you learn something new. Give it a shot, in the long run it will expand your knowledge on BOTH grow methods.

As far a Sog vs Scrog, in my opinion, the only real advantage is a greater harvest with fewer plants in a Scrog. Less plants in case of a bust is better but in cases like me who is just getting something setup again, my first harvest will be a Sog as it's a faster harvest. Then I'll switch to Scrog or possibly a perpetual Scrog.

I would consider what you're doing wrong in the sog to keep from getting dialed in. It might not be a problem switched by going scrog.

Can you give us more details as to what you mean by it not being dialed in the way you want it? :)

Well I average about 10g per plant in my SoG, and that is an average. Clones from the same mother will sometime be 6g for one and 14g for another, and some will be 8-10" long buds while the other will be 2-3". It is too mixed up for me I like uniformity.

As far as SCROG, never the 3 week veg thing would be growing full plants and not training them in any way other than topping them once or twice. SCROG was never in the picture.

I can be open minded but when it comes to SCROG im not. No interest in trying it at all.

I am hoping that the 3 week veg cycle would maybe give me 56g per and not an average of 56g per.

I would like to have got 28g per stick with the SoG way but would have settled for 21g, but not an average of 10g with average being the key word.

I'm having a similar issue in my sog with the clones. I've been experimenting to find solutions. I think the secret might be in the cutting itself + root size when put into flowering. But I'm still trying to figure it out. :D I think I might start getting out the ruler when taking cuts.

Anyway, 3 weeks of veg will likely leave you with huge plants. I have some stretched above my light right now thanks to a period of time less than that.

Height wouldn't be a problem, would just have to make adjustments which would not be hard. I would much rather have the SoG style, but unless I can find a solution or everyone votes against the 3 week veg then I will be going to the 3 week veg.
I guess the point of my post was to try to get people to talk me out of the 3 week thing but I guess it isn't such a bad idea.
I figured I would give it a go today by using a replacement mother that has been in veg for 4 weeks. So I guess I will see how big it really gets. Supposedly this strain don't get that tall indoors.
