Keeping plants in veg with hps then cfl?

I am vegging plants under a 600watt hps running 18hours a day. But lately the days have been getting hot around here : while the nights have been mild. I want to run the 600 for 12hours during the night then for the remaining 6hours in the morning switch off the 600 and continue with two 70watt cfl's.

Anyone know if this will cause hermies. (will the reduction of lumens cause it to try to flower?)

No. I read an article in hightimes they used a 100w incandescent to extend the photo period on a large grow. In nature the plant could get several hours or more of obstructed light think of surrounding obstacles like trees blocking direct light, it will just be less overall growth I would assume.

should be fine! but 140w of cfl isnt much compared to a 600w, especially if they are big and the cab is full of them ?

i do this right now with my 400w hps. i have 3 ladies flowering and 4 that are vegging so every night when the lights go out i move the vegging plants under a 200w t5 for 8 hrs. i have nice big leaves with barley any internodal spacing.

unless your looking for a fast veg where plants grow tall n fast MH or HPS is needed. but if time isnt a problem i get nice fast lush growth veggn with CFL's

my veg erea runs 6am-12am midnight 18 hrs flower run 6pm-6am year round

Pothead, I need 50 clones asap, thats the reason for going with the 600. I have a 3x3 flood and drain table that I am going to run a sog with 50 plants. Otherwise I would just veg with the cfl.

right on, for your situation i would run veg under the 600W 6pm to 12pm afternoon next day before it gets hot out. you'll have nice even veg and lights out before hottest part of day then back on when it starts to cool down. i live in the mohave desert and understand heat during summer in 07 i had 40 in flower and another 46 in veg including 3 bonsai mother plants. i had 6 light fixtures 70 w in cfl each fixture total 420w in cfl over the veg erea done nice job.

something to maybe consider in the future 2 of the 6 light fixtures for bathroom vanity lights mounted back to back. heavy duty extension cord for plug, light each socket has Yadaptor for 2 bulbs. each holds a
45w = 150w warm @2900 lumens 2700k color
25w = 100w daylight @1470 lumens 5000k color
would give ya 820w in mixed spectrum color CFL's would cost less then HPS or MH to operate produce less heat and prolly veg near as fast. the current 280w i have running gives me almost to fast of growth between flower runs. i veg in the master bedroom closet where flower chamber is ballasts and air intake for flower chamber is. temps are n/p any where in the closet
