best light for.....veg......bloom

cant search for "best lights" cause it omits 'lights'. need to fix this search engine that way to look for what you want. commonly used word or not.

whats the best for veg? i tell you right now MH only. do NOT putta HPS in with a MH and so i cant imagine just a HPS. you get what i got. 2" stretching btwn nodes that don't grow anything but a single fan leave. ugh.

so i read in this book "Indoor MJ Horticulture" by jorge cervantes, that says i assume, they are using a 600 or 1000W MH, to "add a HPS to the MH".

well everybody here, myself included seems to use just HPS for buds and MH for veg. (me too after my MAJOR F.UP! see pic in infirmary sec http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=126794 )

does anybody have any history, Ka nowledge of just using MH for bud? what do you think of the books advice of both for budding? i just know now, do NOT do both in veg unless you are growing rope. maybe if i had MH in with my 1000W HPS, those crappy thimble sized buds would have grown more, I doubt it tho.

This is all a bunch of hype put on by light manufacturers so you'll spend a bunch of your hard earned money on light systems.
I've tried 'em all. You can grow just as good with MH or HPS from seed to harvest. The cheap bulbs from Home DePOT grow just as good as Hortilux bulbs.
Spend your money on good genetics.

^ this is true, my brother uses veg floros for flower as he does not take growing seriously at all, and he produces some nice end product. only difference is I think his finish a week later

I have used HPS for veg before with perfectly fine results when I didn't have money for a MH bulb. I believe DJ Short said if he could only have one bulb he would pick a MH for flower over a HPS.

I got a brand new 1000w Sun Systems Harvest Pro Switchable ballast off ebay for $160.00. I also have a 1000w MH that I was using up until I bought this switchable off ebay 2 weeks ago. I originally planned to use the 1000w MH from Veg to Harvest by just buying the EYE Hortilux 940w 1kwMH to HPS conversion bulb that says it puts out 130,000 lumens vs. the 1000w Super HPS bulb that puts out 145,000 lumens. The problem was the 940w conversion bulb couldn't be found for under $186.00 and I knew I could get a brand new 1000w switchable for $25 less than that. Yes, I did end up buying a brand new EYE Hortilux 1000w Super HPS bulb even though I had a slightly used 1000w regular HPS bulb but you don't have to buy the SuperHPS Hortilux. I now use my switchable for everything and just switch out the bulbs. I have a 1000w MH sitting here collecting dust but didn't want a 1000w in my veg chamber I'm building. Probably just going to sell it.

it just kills me to see people growing pot without even a second look at it. i cant grow it no matter how much money or TIME i throw at it. it pisses me off to no end.

one thing about the HPS and MH 400Ws that were on at the same time is that they were just commercial lights from the elec supply. the hps was hanging somewhat vertically and the mh was in a horiz hood. i have two strains. the first grew big fat colas the size of coke cans ONE time and then not since. i have all clones from the original. the second was spozed to be medicinal and the guys who have seen the pic here swear it's a sativa, but nobody has them up here cause everything is indoors. that's how screwed up they were. it IS time to buy some seeds from somewhere tho, i will give you that. i also have the friend i told you about that grew all kinds of KGB back in the 80s with nothing but a street light MH. crap.

MARQUIS !! dude that picture you posted, its called stretch! your plant you posted JUST started flowering, with stretch,YES STRETCH MH is fine for flower! HPS is fine for veg! if you want one bulb get a ceramic metal halide, its the one bulb fits all if you are looking for just one light system

okay, but i never had this problem before. in fact a couple of plants were too close. with a 400W i can put them about a foot away. these all were no farther than 2 feet, because i have them on a table. i have them the same distance away now, but with 2 400W MH's they are looking normal, the tops of them have nodes close together, there is no helping the rest of the plant. oh well. it MUST HAVE BEEN, that while i have the MH right next to them in a reflector, the HPS was vertical w/o a reflector. MUST A BEEN that because of the vertical position of the HPS, they weren't getting hardly anything from it or something, and then they were about 2 feet plus from the MH. i think that would account for stretching then, yeah?????

i put a couple plants that hadnt started buddin yet back into my veg room to let them gather it back together.

another question. i posted that the book says MH and HPS together rocks hardest. i now have two seperate rooms one with a 1K HPS and one with a switchable HPS i can put a MH in. should i put all plants in one room (wont be too crowded) with BOTH a 1K MH AND the 1K HPS for 2K total blasting down on them? would that be any better? i guess that is what i should have posted first in this thread.

The cheap bulbs from Home DePOT grow just as good as Hortilux bulbs.

I'll second this one. I used an AgroSun at 3X the price of a reg HPS. One day it blew and I got a cheapie HPS. The garden never knew the difference.

I will say I'm thrilled with CMH-Ceramic Metal Halides. I was just ready to add MH to the growroom which would have doubled my lamp costs anyway. With CMH, I get more blue than MH and more red than HPS. No need to spend on extra ballasts or worry about switching.

Thank you for the information about the CMH line of bulbs. I wanted a 'MH' light for veg and this product seems to fit the bill rather nicely. And I already have the P.L. Lighting Systems' ballasts and reflectors from Holland that are NOT digital so there shouldn't be a problem.

I'm hoping.

CMH are what I'm using right now, to early to say an opinion but they grow the plant

I like it for the fact you can actually "see your plant", unlike the color under a HPS, and it seems others want a little more red then MH, this is where CMH seems to fit the bill..
