A WARNING about the toxic effects of cannabis was issued last night after a 36-year-old man became the first to die as a direct result of smoking the drug.

Lee Maisey, 36, who smoked half a dozen “joints” a day, was found dead on the living room floor of his home in Summerhill, Pembrokeshire, after complaining of a headache.
Michael Howells, the Pembrokeshire Coroner, recorded the cause of death as cannabis poisoning, although the verdict recorded was death by misadventure because Mr Maisey had died while taking part in an illegal activity.
Philip Guy, a lecturer in addictions at the University of Hull, said that “cannabis has changed. Nowadays it is a lot stronger than it used to be. It is not the nice hippy drug it once was. It is a distinct possibility that someone could die from extreme toxicity.” Dr Guy said death was more likely if the drug had been eaten instead of smoked. “If you eat a large amount of it it can be deadly.”

At first i thought they were trying to step up the "war on drugs" and quoting some serious studies but after reading the article i know that there is not an ounce of truth in it. Toxic doses of THC are in the 40.000 times normal dosage range so i know this article is full of shit not matter who prints it. Who the hell smokes something like 20.000 joints a day? If anybody smoked that much death would be caused by atrophy of tissue by a lack of oxygen and not because of the THC content.

I am sick of seeing these friggen lies printed in nationally recognized newspapers that purport to be non-biased and neutral when they clearly have an internal government sponsored agenda.

This is a 2004 death . I'd bet the coroners report put this story to bed. The guy probably had an anyurism. Im sure if his brain exploded from smoking pot we wouldve had heard something. Just a wild guess....lol

Total horse-hockey. Literally MILLIONS of people world-wide have smoked at LEAST as much as that for years. Myself included. And they point to one example where one random guy (out of the millions who smoke equal amounts as he does) who smokes weed complains of a headache and dies later, then they say it's because of "marijuana poisoning" and they offer absolutely no evidence for that claim.

My dad complained of a headache one day, and he died of a stroke later. No marijuana involved. I'll rephrase for those governmental idiots who can't see the obvious: One person, out of the MILLIONS who smoke weed every day, who dies after complaining of a headache does NOT represent a death by marijuana overdose.

Isn't it more likely that a guy who was genetically pre-destined to die at or around the age of 36 due to some cranial anomaly, regardless of other lifestyle choices, also happened to be a marijuana smoker? Can anyone here dispute the possibility that marijuana use might have actually LENGTHENED this poor man's life?

Do they bring these points up? Hell no! They're idiots!

I don't know why people get so mad about this stuff, we have the power to elect officials who can actually fix the problems of the world OR get elected themselves if wanted.

I just received a letter from my districts state senator letting me know he got my letter about legalizing marijuana in california fully and thanked me for my thoughts.
