Megas fire extinguisher idea

So as I look more into small grow ideas and spaces I see a lot of people using wood cases. Well I was thinking with certain ferts and if something is dry or and a bulb explodes and shit happens you could have a big box of fire. So heres my idea. (Take it for what its worth) but I think it might be relevant for small wood boxes.

#1 the bottom of your grow box should not be wood, go to a dollar store and buy a metal pan. Typical pan you would use for cooking oven french fries on.
Simple enough but something burning isn't going to get fuel from metal. so it can flick sparks on it all day.

So the question is, what happens if bulb blows and lights plants on fire, (guessing they wouldn't be dry enough but lets say, Grower X was using brand Y of ferts which are actually kinda flamable and did a crappy job). Well if you have a metal pan with rims and extra spaces why not put water balloons randomly around it? If sparks are bursting or falling and they pop a ballooon you'll have a puddle at the bottom of your pan to put them out.

Also if the fire does errupt and all balloons should pop potentially the water could help put it out/ steam could also put it out. <- fairly worste case scenary lets face if its that hot to boil water yikes. But hey shit happens right?

Whats the worse that can happen one pops and you get water in your pan or on the floor big deal.

Just an idea. With reading into lighting a lot lately I keep coming across fire/ popped bulb threads so I'm a bit paranoid now.

Hey good idea for a thread. The impression I got is it's usually a cfl or a timer or a power splitter that has the meltdown so I'd be thinking the plastic on those would be the first to light up and generally spread upwards and the floor would be the last thing to burn? I'm only theorizing but that's sort of how I'd envision it. I understand where you're going though - anything is possible in a worst case scenario.

I found out on here about automatic fire extinguishers - they seem like the perfect tool for the job. That burnt CFL thread freaked me out too. I am actually going from tent -> wooden cab, I think wood's fairly safe if it's thick. I hope so anyway.

I put all my timers and power strips in a metal pan, because 9 fires out of 10 in a grow space seem to start with shitty timers and other wiring.

if you already have a pump and reservoir for a hydro setup, this would be a pretty simple installation.

You could always hook your CO2 to a thermal overload sensor(along with the rest of your equipment), so that if it goes over a specific temperature, it just dumps a bunch of it in there-no chance of the fire if it i9s starved for oxygen, and the electric shuts itself off too.

yey water ballons and electricity!

You think waterballoons small enough to be under the plants would somehow shoot up and hit the light? Even if it did who cares it would cause a short and most likely the power would go off. meaning you cut out the main source of the fire. The tray would catch the water so not like your going to get electrocuted since the light will be above that level anyways lol

Either way the metal pan I think is the best advice out of the reasearching and observing grows over the last 10 years.

Personally I'm not going to use water balloons but some peoples grow boxes have made me kinda leary. Worse thing you can do is keep non dairy creamer (the powder) near anything flamable.

Most non-dairy creamers these days is corn syrup and soy been powders, not the naptha that is used to make hollywood special effects (big ass fireballs). So we're safe, I guess. Why would we have coffee creamers be near our grows in the first place?

Well, shit, maybe he's lactose-intolerant... when he needs non-dairy creamer, he NEEDS him some non-dairy creamer! Hey, I'm not arguing.

Heh.

Seriously now:

Google: "marine automatic fire extinguisher" - There You Go. You're welcome.

And the metal pan thing is a good idea, although some floor plans aren't rectangular so... yeah.

Some people have stealth grows in their kitchens/ pantries

Automatic Fire Extinguishers

Suitable for: Marine, automotive and enclosed environments - locations that are occasionally or permanently unmanned, or anywhere requiring an instant extinguishing reaction. Choose powder fire extinguishers for vehicle and marine engine compartments; inert gas fire extinguishers for computer rooms and enclosed compartments.

water balloons wouldn't be enough. had a house fire in 95 and fire shredded that place quicker than a kid with christmas presents. heck it melted a computer into a table. the metal pan is a good idea though. maybe find a staleness pan so there is limited corrosion as well. anyone have any ideas if a cool tube would be a worth while fire prevention as long as it's not made using flammable material? seems like it may contain the hot shards and some of the vapors.
