Will this be the best choice?

I have a question about figuring out the sex of your plants and is this a good way about doing it? Lets say i have a pack of 10 seeds and i germinate all 10 seeds. After that i transfer the sprouted seeds and put them on 12/12 lighting cycle. As soon as they show sex can i put the female back to veg for 2 weeks on 18/6 cycle so i can take clones or longer veg for bigger yield? Is this possible and will it cause anything to the plants? My first plan was to let them veg 18/6 from seeds then when they get bigger take clones from it and put the clones on 12/12 cycle to find out the sex, but i think this way will take to long. Any thoughts?

If you don't want or have time to take clones you still don't need to flip them early. Just sprout and veg all 10 for 4+ weeks and when you see pre-flowers chop the males. You have plenty of time to let the pre-flowers grow enough to be clearly identifiable before you risk the males releasing their pollen.

I would be wary of germinating 10 seeds unless you know you have the space for at least 5 fully grown females (possibly 7+ of them!), they take up alot of room and you will need more than one light to keep a canopy of that many plants well lit.

Mrjim5000- the reason why i want to sprout all 10 seeds is so i can pick the best pheno's out out the bunch. I just bought a pack of sfv og kush seeds so i want to pick the best one and keep it as my keeper. I dont want to veg them for to long since my space is only 4ft tall. If i veg them from seeds until i see pre-flowers is this all done in 18/6 cycle and how long will it takes? As soon as they shows sex i want to take clones from each females and start vegging the clones and flowering them until harvest to see which 1 is the keeper.

My suggestion would be 12/12 from seed. They are going to stretch a bit so you may need some lst. Hit them hard with nitrogen because the will strecth and branch allowing you to take cuttings. Take the cutting by the end of week 3 and make note which is which. a week later then you should know e whats male and whats female. Kill the male plants and their clones. Take the best mom veg her cuts till the 12/12ers come out and bam you got bud and clones of the best mom with out ever having a mom waiting in veg.

Preflowers in 18/6 may exist, but pretty hard to tell consistently. After 12/12 I usually see male balls within 1 week, latest 2 weeks. Once the first true female hairs shows up(looks like 2 white threads), all the rest of the unsexed plants are usually females as well. U can reveg the females at that point with no problem.

the reason why i dont want to go 12/12 is because i dont want to flower the female, i just want to know which 1 is a female is so i keep it and take clones and flower the clones instead to determine which female is better.

if i let my seed plants go untill they mature they show preflowers n/p between 3-6wks from sprout. granted some strains need 12/12 to show sex but the majority will show sex w/out inducing flower. if ya flower untill they show sex then place back into veg you'll wait even longer because the plant must convert back to veg state. this could take 2wks - 3months ive had 1 strain take to fully be prim n proper. i would place plants to reveg on 24/0 lighting 1st wk or 2 then drop back to 18/6 to continue veg process.

what i'll do when lookn for the keeper if plants havent showed sex when flowering is started. i'll mark plants a-b-c or 1-2-3 now take a cutting mark what plant it came from and place into what your gonna clone with marked from what plant for what cut. now plants are in flower your cuts are rooting when plants show sex remove males unless your gonna make seed. keep all girls in there untill they finish dry cure n smoke them before your chioce is made on the keeper. because honestly untill you've smoked the bud ya wont really know whats your keeper what looks like a keeper to 1 person may not be a keeper for another based on looks. i allways base my keepers on how much time to grow how they taste and potentancy most important for my needs

i prefer to take cut 1 wk before flowering this allows plant to recover from any shock induced from taken cuts. i've taken cuts far as 3wks into flowering. my old memoryloss urkel pheno i took few cuts 3 wks in flwr. they took 3 months to fully revert back to veg and approx 5-6wks to root because they revert back to veg in the clone bubbler. when you reveg plants they get all wierded out mang throw single blade leaves throw curled funky leaves. just when your about to give up they throw prim n proper leaves its all documented in my 07 grow log in my sig

now after i've made my keeper choice i grow mums bonsai style http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=31919 i've kept total 4 full size mums this way but currently have 2, i've started to train and gifted many many more to close friends local

what he said:yeahthats
i like to take clones about 3-5 days into flowering to allow all of the starches a few days to start to break down. it seems to make them root faster than cloning from veg or later on in flowering.

With a good loop you should be able to sex your plants consistently in veg. I can almost always sex seed plants before 5-weeks under 24/0 or 18/6 light. I do tend to keep them in small containers which might speed to process up a bit.

With training you can keep a plant a couple of inches tall if you like, all you need is holes around your pot, paperclips and some twine. It's a bit more intensive doing it in flower but still very simple to keep your plants down.

I think the best thing to do would be to take clones of all your plants, then veg and flower the orginal plants as normal. You won't know which plant is the keeper until you get them properly flowering or even until you smoke them. Once you have decided which plant is a keeper you then turn one of her clones into the mother and flower out all the other female clones you have.

You will get your first harvest in a reasonable time, your second 8 weeks later and your third maybe 10 weeks after that, with each future harvest every 8 weeks or so (assuming 8 week average flower period).
