Rapid Rooters: the same as Root Riot...?

I have had nightmares with my cloning and was advised by Mr JJ Scorpio to invest in some Rapid Rooters.

The only problem with that is that I am in the UK and they are not for sale over here. So after trawling the internet and asking confused staff in garden centres I had begun to give up. However, I visited RHS Garden Wisley at the weekend and as well as a great selection of products including Worm Casts, Clonex, Coir pots and all sorts of useful stuff they also have trays of a product called ROOT RIOT.

I am 99.9% sure that this is the very same thing as Rapid Rooters only a different name in the UK. I bought a tray of 24 for £4.99 and have laid my first set of a few clones down already. They ARE very easy to use and I will let you know how they take. But really this is to help anyone in my situation in the UK looking for rapid rooters.

I have since found an eBay seller in the UK selling packs of 50 Rapid Rooters. But I stay away from online purchases so i'll be back down Wisley soon... hopefully i'll see a few other red eyes there and know my message has helped!

Celebrate the solstice this weekend, its the longest day of the year!
Peace :joint:

Great find but, what a lousy name for a product. My first thought seeing your thread heading was, "Why is he comparing mediums to fertilizer?" Root Riot sounds like an additive to me rather than a substrate. Oh well. What's in a name? Good on you.

It IS a ridiculous name, isnt it? Root Riot: it barely makes sense, also makes me think of root ROT all the time which really isnt great...

alot of people seem to use them with great results,,,you just have to find what works for you,,,hope youve found your way bro :2cents:

Damn, I hope to find a way that works real soon. I grow perpetual so having fesh rooted clones every week is essential.

As for peat pellets, I havent used peat products in any form of gardening for 2 years. I know peat pellets are only tiny but I think as consumers we need to boycott peat altogether and companies will get the message. I'm honestly not having a dig at you. Everyone is entitled to use what they want and using peat pellets isn't exactly crime of the century. I also wouldn't change my cloning methods, if I ever find one that works, escpecially if im rooting 95%!! I personally hope to find a way without peat...

At the moment I get about 30% root in an average of 20-25 days in 100% perlite. That's really not good enough. But persistence is key and all I can do is try, try and try again.
I'll keep you all informed of my progress.
Cheers dudes

Peat is a very important wildlife habitat but already 94% of the UK sites have been damaged or destroyed. 75% of all peat usage is from us, the amatuer gardener, and it is a finite resource.
It absorbs co2 and can't be replaced. I think we all, in todays world, need to think about alternatives before its all gone, taking with it the wildlife and adding to global warming.

Thats my rant done! Lol. Sorry if that came accross a bit fierce. Think i'll smoke one now and chill out :joint:

That did come across a 'bit fierce', but no problem. I don't think peat is quite like oil, or other 'finite resources'. Sure it grows slowly, but there is a lot of it out there. You might have a point about peat resources on your particular island, but there is lots of it in the rest of the planet.

If power plants are running on peat fuel, I don't think I'll worry about a few starter pellets here and there.

All true but it is quite symbolic of many people's view on lots of matters. I think the problems we are to face in the future due to our raping of oil is down to the viewpoint that "...hey theres a lot of it out there" cos there was once but as we know its getting less and less. Sure, we're not as reliant on peat as we are oil (which is why there IS still loads of peat on the planet) but many creatures/species are.

I personally think its very important that we are wise to as many planet harming activities as we can be and do our best to find another way. There is always another way. :biglaugh:

As for power plants running off peat... not many, to be fair and as I stated 75% of peat usage is the amatuer gardener so i'm sure it if we all did worry about a few starter pellets it would have a huge difference. We can only change ourselves

Lol, I guess I feel quite strongly about this!! I'm not even that much of a hippy... I have short hair and run my own business, ffs!

I hope this comes across in the lighthearted way that I had intended :smoweed:

Well HURRAH for root riot!
I have my first root showing after 8 days! That is an amazing improvement on my last few tries with various other mediums. I did also pick up some clonex and used that for the first time instead of my "organic rooting gel" from the local garden centre.
Basically I dont care what is working or how it is working, all I know is that it IS working and I am one very happy, soon to be fully self medicated and about to smoke a celbratory fat one guy!!

If all my clones survive too... well, that'd be gravy.

Thanks man, its put a nice smile on my face. It was literally the last of the numerous problems I faced as a newby grower, who cos he's a gardener, thought he knew it already!

But I am now fully humbled with a tray of lovely clones and a box of lovely plants.

It is reasonable now to think that in about 3 months I will no longer need to visit f' around with meeting deelers to support my habit. A self sufficient man...lol

Cheers for dropping by mate, moral support is a wonderful thing.... and YOU keep it green too.

I love this shit...

root riots are pretty much the same thing as rapid rooters, they are just square instead of round. i have had great success with rootriots and no gel.
