Mushroom cakes not pinning

Hi guys!

Me and a friend of mine made 2 mushroom cakes, using P. Cubensis transkei... they have been made the 15th of july, and now they are in netherlands... I followed the PFtek step by step... and the 4th of august one of them started pinning...

Well i had to be a bit rude, but i birth it at the first sign of pinning and placed it in the terrarium (80% rh 90 °F, just one night it dropped to 30% for mistake), but no more pins formed and eventually it turned blue, so we trew it away...

Now the other cake is still waiting to be birthed... but no pinning is forming and we alredy coldshocked it...

What to do?

I don't give a fuck if the crop we'll be really low, in netherland mush are legal to buy, we just want to grow mush ourselves...

How long were they incubating in the jars? Sometimes I would re-hydrate them, fill their jar with h20, put cake back in with lid on and leave in fridge for 7-12 hrs. Now birth in your fruiting chamber and see what happens. Could take 10 days to see pinning but just wait.

They finished colonizing around the 5th of August, and the very same day one showed a pin, but turned blue when birthed.
So i cold shocked yesterday, and now i should birth the second one too? Even without pin showing?

I thought about H2O2, isn't it bad for mycelia?

I'm afraid to loose it, since it's my last cake... :'(

Yea, And mabey you could get your temps down too. Aint 90f a little high?

you nailed it brutha^^ try a temp of 60-70F and 12/12 lighting. they dont need to pin before removing from jar..i think u are leaving too long in jar and its rotting. a bed of perlite with h202 mixed with water underneath. good luck i saw a friend do it a long ass time ago. but i dont think this is the right place for this dicussion anyhow. good luck once again :joint:

Another thing nobody has mentioned is you said your first cake turned blue when you birthed it so you threw it out. Are you sure it was a contamination?

Cakes, like cubensis mushrooms, can bruise blue.

Drop your temp to somewhere in the 70s, keep the humidity high, give it a little light and fresh air exchange daily, and you will have a personal amount from a cake.

You should drop the PF-TEK, or crumble the cake and make a casing for higher yield. Look into rye, wild bird seed, or corn.

if your using H202 in the water
the cakes should never touch the perlite anyhow
small plastic lid of some sort will do the trick
then it does not matter if you mix it in a bit strong
:2cents:

FAE in my opinion is one of the most important parts of pinning.. Also if you are having humidity problems next set of cakes try the dunk and roll tek.. It really helps with yeild.. Also build a shotgun terrarium.. They are the best for cakes.. After you finish cakes for the 1st time switch to spawning to a bulk substrate... Cakes are not worth the work..
