ph and ppm/ec help needed

ok people, I have a question. what does it mean when the ph is stabile at 5.8 and the ppms have gone up just a lil bit, about 100 ppms. was 850 and now its at 950. I have some sick plants, but they are comin back around nicely, so that's why I need to know what this means. if this is good and normal, then fine. I think this means that they are takin in both water and nutes, if so then there is no problem. I jus wanna make sure that's what's happening. I know how to tell if it rich or lean, but my readings are neither. so what does this mean? are they taking in both water and nutes, if so why did my ppms creep up a lil bit then? taking in more water than nutes, maybe? thanks for your help.

It means they are using more water than nutes.Or some water evaporated....mitsu

so is that alright then? I mean is it normal for then to take up more water than nutes? do the water and nutes usually get taken in about the same rate? I wanna know so I can tell if they are getn enough nutes.

"Normal" is to take what they need. Failure to provide the desired ratio means the plant will absorb water and nutes at different rates. Because no one pH reading allows for absorption of all nutes, a mild swing is good for you.

Your fine.

Adding more water will bring it back down. Top off daily or every other day with fresh water and you should see a gradual decrease in EC over the course of several days.

That's your sweet spot.

well its only a period of about a day and a half to two days. they really seem to be doing better, especially since I took them out of my original res of only two gallons, to an 18 gallon tub( only filled to 12 gallons though). btw, my roots may be a prob. they are white, but with a very lil bit of brown color. all of the roots look healthy, but still I would like to hear others opions. thank you all for your help so far.

ok freezerboy I have a question for you about your last post. you said,''failure to provide the desired ratio means the plant will absorb water and nutes at different rates''. first off, what is the desired ratio? is that strain specific maybe? I have two diferent strains going in the same tub, super skunk and sour deisel, sd is the one not doing so well. any ideas?

If you're talking of the brilliant white of baby roots, kiss that goodbye :badday: Some staining is inevitable. I run a rather lean solution myself.

The desired ratio would be when the EC & pH flatline. Some call it Dialed In. Chart your readings and the curve will tell you which way to go. Failure was a bad choice of words. Personally, I avoid the "desired ratio" to provide a small (0.5) pH swing.
