PRO-MIX BX, This is the only pro-mix I can get in my area.. I use the soil only don't add anything to it except the organic nutes at feeding. The BX stays wet for way to long, I know now you need to add more perlite to BX, Now my question is how much should I add to a 3.8 bale as that is how much I work up at one time...Thanks everyone in advance..Know you guys can help me..:1help:

^ Yes, correct. You may also consider adding 2 tablespoons ground dolomitic lime per gallon of finished mix.

I use both LC's Soil Mix #1 & #2. Option # 2 is if you use ProMix. i actually have 7 plants going in LC's Mix #1 and six plants going in LC's Mix #2. The plants are loving both mixes. I highly recommend you add the worm castings as they are referred to as Black Gold and I believe are the main reason my plants are growing so fast and are so healthy. Here is LC's mixes from the Organic's For Beginners Thread:

LC’s Soiless Mix #1:
5 parts Canadian Spaghnam Peat or Coir or Pro-Moss
3 parts perlite
2 parts wormcastings or mushroom compost or home made compost
Powdered (NOT PELLETIZED) dolomite lime @ 2 tablespoons per gallon or 1 cup per cubic foot of the soiless mix.
...Wal-Mart now sells worm castings.

Or, if you use Pro Mix or Sunshine Mix...
LC's Soiless Mix #2:
6 parts Pro Mix BX or HP / Sunshine Mix (any flavor from #1 up)
2 parts perlite
2 parts earthworm castings
Powdered (NOT PELLETIZED) dolomite lime @ 2 tablespoons per gallon or 1 cup per cubic foot of the soiless mix.
If you use a 3 qt. saucepan as “parts” in the amounts given above, it equals about 1 cu. ft. of soiless mix and you can just dump in a cup of powdered dolomite lime.
But, a "part" can be anything from a tablespoon to a five gallon bucket. Just use the same item for all of the "parts".

Remeber parts is whatever you want it to be. So if you measure in gallons then put 6 gallons ProMix, 2 Gallons Perlite, etc. I am using LC's Mix # 1 and using FloraNova Grow and Bloom with that mix. I am using LC's Mix #2 with ProMix but mixed in dry ferts: Bone Meal, Blood Meal, Kelp Meal, GreenSand, etc. Check out the Organics For Beginners thread under Organic Soil.

Those compressed bails are ALOT of soil, I would mix it in batches until your pots are full or you may have alot of mix left over. I just found that out for myself the hard way this past weekend!

I mix the 3.8 bale with a 1.5 bushel bag of perlite with great results. Throw in 1-2 Tbs per gallon pulverized dolomite lime and watch em grow!

thekingofNY, and ReeferRon Thanks, that exactly what I needed to know, been adding casting this last go round and I am sure that added to my problem. Yes I realize how much a bale makes I mix up six bales at a time, got 2 pretty good size rooms..Thanks everyone for your input, problem solved:woohoo:

75% Pro Mix BX
25% perlite
two - three nice fat tablespoons of fine dolomite per gallon - this stuff breaks down slow so too much won't hurt but too little will.
Kelp meal for some extra K and soil structure
Bat guanos for N and P and beneficial microbes
Extra Mycorhizae
Worm castings are great for micronutes

I think that about sums it up - once plants get hungry I use Canna fertilisers and their various bloom boosters and enzyme formulas. Best of luck.

to be honest i don't even add lime or perlite. only GH flora Nova with dry and liquid koolbloom and floralicious plus and flora nectar. good results with minimal effort. now i just use a water only mix. got bored measuring out nutes.....
