Has anyone ever tried one of these portable vaporizor units? I know there are a number of them out there, but the Iolite seems to be the best for the price ($249).

I'm in desperate need of a portable, discreet, medication solution, so any advice would be much appreciated.

The Iolite:

I can vouch for the Vaporgenie ($50-$65) and the Vaporbrothers handsfree ($140-$180). No smell, no pain, and only gain! Keep your options wide, spending less on the Vaporizer means more money for meds.

Heard some great things about the I-Olite, and some terrible things. They seem to have a reputation for going bust after a few weeks/months of use from what I've read.

I was on a similar search to you, and I ended up going for the VaporGenie. They start at around $50, and for that you'll get a lifetime guarantee, an awesome VaporGenie, free P&P to the USA, and some monstrous vapor hits too. I pre-pack a bowl, shove it in my pocket, and head out for the day. The bowls only hold about 0.1g of weed, but that's more than enough for most people to feel rather stoned (around 5-12 hits, depending on how hard ya' hit it). One thing to warn you about though: you'll want a refillable lighter and a can of butane, as constantly replacing lighters can become annoying, and the VaporGenie uses lots of them.

Bummer about the Iolite.

I like the VG, but it's not very discrete as you still need a lighter. I need discretion, portable.

Thanks for your feedback.

Anyone else?

Well, I went ahead and ordered a lime green model. I'll visit this thread again when I've had a chance to test it out (this weekend) and let you all know how it is!

I have no personal experience with any of the portable vapes, but an guy I know from NORML meetings was telling me about the iInhale (the Iolite before it was the Iolite) and he swears by it. As a medical user he had nothing but great things to say about it, and he had his for a while .
I'm anxious to hear what you think of it, I've been thinking about spending the $$ and getting one myself! I love my Da Buddha, but need something portable too.

That's good to hear, thanks for adding it. I have read a number of reviews online and all but one was glowing. I'll for sure drop my review here when I've tried it out (it should be here this afternoon!).

Ok guys and gals, I just received my Iolite and I have to say, this thing is sooooo sweet (even down to the packaging, which reminds me a lot of the iPhone). It works exactly as advertised, and it's VERY easy to use. I had it unpackaged and was hitting it within a few minutes...it includes a really handy quick start guide. :joint:

I was able to take my first tokes about 2 minutes in (that's when I noticed vapor coming out in my exhale; they say it only takes 45 seconds to heat up). I consumed the bowl I loaded over a 10 minute period or so...just left it sitting on the desk next to me between tokes. It turns on about every few minutes to keep the temperature just right (you can hear the gas wooshing as it does so, and there's a little orange light that indicates it's heating). They say it reaches it's peak performance after about 10 minutes, and that it can stay on for 2 hours with one refill of butane (that's right, this thing runs on lighter butane).

It's light, small, VERY portable, and comes with a really nice little carrying case. It also comes with some extra screens, moisture condensers, and cleaning tool.

What can I say, I'm in love! This is the perfect portable solution for medical users, and others, in my opinion. Now let's just hope the craftsmanship is solid as a rock and that I don't have to use the 2 year warranty that comes with it.

These are my first impressions. I'll update the thread when I have used it a bit longer.

Okay you got that fast as hell! Overnight Shipping or did you buy from a local headshop?

Great first impressions! I may just have to get one sooner than later!

Overnight air shipped...I'm an impatient bastard.

How's the I-olite going?

Ok, so I've used it now for 4 days straight, no other toking device but the Iolite. I love it, love it, love it. I've been able to use it both at home and on the road. I wouldn't call it perfect stealth, as anyone with a nose can smell it (so people saying they use it in theaters are plumb nuts, unless they're the only ones in there). But it's very easy to use, it heats up very quickly, and it provides a very nice vaporizing experience for anyone looking for a mobile unit (hell, I'll even use this one at home more than I use my Vaporbrothers unit, I'm sure).

If you can afford one, they're well worth the price of admission. So far the craftsmanship seems top notch and I believe that it'll last me a long time if I take care of it.

I just wanted to jump in and recommend the vaporstar vaporizers. I love mine so much that I have all 3 of the(one two smoke with the other 2 for backup & collection). I think they are the next best thing since crotchless panties for women. LoL. I get at least 10 or so good hits off a .1 bowl, and the first 8 or so hits are huge especially the first ones. I used to roll with nothing but garcia vegas, and occasional swishers and dutch masters. Now I use the vaporstar and I have saved a crapload of money and it is definitely a much healthier alternative. The flavors are amazing, and I think you get more thc per hit than any other smoking method. Be sure to be sitting down with the more potent strains. This thing will put you on your a$$! Enjoy your vaporizer.

Size-wise and in person appearance-wise, is it something that could be carried with you, say, to a concert venue? aka if there were a metal detector or if you got patted down, could it be played off as a cell phone or something, or is it obviously some sort of strange device that may attract attention?

I have had the I-Olite since it was called the I-inhale. Works pretty good and is great while on the road. Take out that little screen and you get bigger hits.

The iolite is run by butane right? So no batteries?

That's right, run on regular lighter butane. They say it can run for 2 hours straight on one butane refill, but so far I would question that. I would say more like an hour and a half or so, give or take, but pretty close. This is one of the features I like best...the butane...it heats very quickly, unlike my wall plug in Vaporbrothers which sometimes takes 5 minutes or more to get an adequate vaporizing temperature.

It's about the size of an iPhone in terms of length, width, height and weight. It comes with a zippered carrying case, which also has room for the replacement screens, hand tool, etc. Appearance wise it's definitely some sort of strange device, but maybe you can pass it off as a "medical device" and nobody would ask further questions?
