Hi ,

Planning a trip to Kasol , Tosh , Malana in a few weeks , was wondering if someone with proper expereince of that region and its Charas can guide me on "what to do" , who to look for (sellers) and what not to do etc . I would also love to know if you can get different strains of weed there (i have heard that italians and isreili's have imported some strains) aswell as if you can get actual weed . I am looking to buy around 200 grams to bring back to New delhi for my freinds and buddies so wanted to know where i can get the good $hit without being ripped off or put in jail :)

Hi mate

keep trying!

Have been that way but not for many years. Was never - and I suspect still is not - a problem finding charas in kullu/parvati. Plenty of people offering (the usual whispers of "charasss.. sssmoke!" from dealing locals - sometimes even local kids - at likely looking people ; plenty of dreads to ask etc). If you go in October then that's the rubbing season and it will be busy and I guess particularly easy to score. Malana now perhaps tricky due to police interest, a big fire in the village a year or two back etc but if you have time, still worth going... I would aim to stay in manikaran or pulga or tosh as a base for your resin hunt. I gather Kasol is very much an israeli haunt

Strains. Yes, idiots (I know not from where) have brought in strains from outside the area and, I have to say, charas just doesn't seem to taste as good as it once did. Grrr. But this may mean you can get weed too (was not really an option in days of yore but then, with all that charas, I never wanted any weed).

Be VERY careful taking charas back to Delhi - the narcs are very hot on that route, especially if you go direct. They are/were based in kullu to catch people coming down from either valley. With that quantity I would seriously consider swallowing just to be sure, even though you aren't crossing any borders. Jail time in India just not worth it. Strongly recommend you insist your friends in Delhi join you up in the hills if they want to share your tokes. Don't be a mule, man, don't get used. (sorry, preaching over)

best

I have had some conflicting advise regarding wether to go for CREAM or not to go for the creamy stuff...is it ok to go and ask locals for ICE or bubble hash and some cream or basically just go with the flow and buy whatever selection they have?

The name is irrelevant, bring_it_on. If you ask for ice or bubble or cream or whatever they will alway say they have it, even if what they have is just standard commercial charas. You need to inspect the goods on offer to tell if it is quality or not.

Coincidentally I have just written a fairly detailed guide on judging resin quality for a moroccan hash thread, you can check it out here http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=124451

Not all of this advice hold true for charas as charas - being rubbed and not seived - almost inevitably has some leaf metter trapped in it (though the best of the best does not and is every bit as pre as seived ; rare as hens' teeth though) but most of it holds true.

The best approach - as always - is to ask for a small sample and try before you buy (or at least pass them a rs50 tip for a gram) and go back to them if you like what you have gotten.

Happy hunting

Thx guys , i am leaving very soon and as soon as i get back i will post pictures and my report on the travel. I am not going to be bringing back a lot of stuff as i had earlier planned , just a few grams to smoke (about 2-3 tolas) for myself..i think that shouldnt be a problem since i will be renting a large SUV from delhi and not taking public transportation...

Sorry guys, but in Parvati there hasn't been charas commercially available for many years. (Meaning hand rubbed good quality stuff that was available 10-20 years ago.)

If you have smoked real charash and tasted the stuff they have nowadays you agree. It's NOT charash. Theres so much tourists that doesn't understand shit about quality. Valley is full of Israeli folk that smoke any shit from a bong:yoinks: and be happy about it...

Maybe it's still possible to get decent stuff but if your there first time, very difficult.
My advice is to go as far from Kasol/Manikaram as possible. Talk to Scandinavian, Japanese or Italian people, and maybe you get lucky... LOL

First off all take care when you bring stuff out off the vally.

On getting good stuff, malana is a good place. But look out they are selling alot off crap, spend some time there and talk to other turist (not isrealy because they dont know shit, italiens have very good connections) where they got there good stuff from.
Also dont buy the first pice that they show you unless it's what you want, convince them that you know charas and that you want the good stuff.
In malana they make most off the ice in the vally, they call it ice cream.
When checking your stuff then try to smear the charas out on your nail, if it make them greasy then it's adultarated.

The only place i can tell you to go to direkt is pulga where the geust house appel garden is, talk to the owner he will help you out if he wants, he has some flat chapaties that are very good and cost around 500 rps

In tosh and casol you need to know pepol to find good stuff relativly fast.

Side note was in paravati last summer and have been coming there fore 10 years and it took me one month after arrving before i got the best off the vally and i got i because a freind came a picked up his stash and there was some left fore me

Price wise you wont find any real paravaty under 500rps

Only in season time is it easy to get the good stuff and most is sold in season or reserved and then picked up in summer time where transporting it down the vally is less risky.

HOpe you will have a blast off a time and rember to go out on some treks, the nature there is very beatifull, the forest behind pulga is so good

Another greath place to score charas is Banjar Vally in a town called Jibi.

It is another vally that joints kullu vally. They produce very good charas and much cheaper than paravati, then only minus is that it dosent get so cold nights there so the taste is less good.
There if you are really lucky and meet the right pepol you will find dry sift that used to be exported to holland and is off very high quality.

Most off the charas in paravati comes from Banjar and Saint vally now a days pepol in paravati is more in to selling charas, food and rooms in geust houses.
