Ok so for the sake of discussion what lights would work with this foot print? 150hps, 250hps or 400w? I am just thinking that that cost of the plls with ballast and bulbs, I could easily get into a 400w, but wouls that be to much light?

18.75"w x 20.5"h = 2.7 sq ft.

@50 watts a sq ft thats 135 watts. A 150 would be perfect. A 250 approaches 100 watts a sq ft which many feel is the point of diminishing returns. A 400 would be overkill @ nearly 150 watts per sq ft.

Freezerboy, I was just going throw you thunk thread. I should have clairified. I meant for the upper flowering space. it is 18.75w x 39l = 5.03sq ft. I am going to just run cfl's in the veg room.
One I have them and two they will be good enought to grow plants to 10"-12" before moving to flower area.

Well I work on the cab this weekend. I basically took it all apart and reassembled it. I cut a 2.7 x 11 inch hole in the veg area for intake and a 4" hole for the exhaust. I ran a four inch PVC pipe up through the upper flower room into the utility room. This way I can have seperate intake and exhausts for the flower and veg rooms. On the left lower side where I am going to keep my res I cut a 5x5 hole in the floor and made duct work going to the flower room above it. This will be my intake for the flower room. Under the cabinet I light proofed both intakes so they are drawing air from the lowest point in the room. Light proofing went well. I basically just made a couple of turns with some 1x6 all painted black.

With the intake air for the veg room getting its air from the backside of the cabinet now my temps have went up to like 78 from 70. I wonder if it is because the 120mm fan is placed in the utility cabinet 42" away? Think I should move it to below the PVC pipe? I would like to run a couple more bulbs in the veg room just to get the lumen's up to 5000/sq ft.

I am really kicking around putting the 400w HPS in the flower room. Running it through a cool tube and having a seperate exhaust for the flower room. How big of a fan do you use to pull air through a cool tube with a 400 to keep temps down? One reason I am thinking of this is my hydro guy is going to hook me up with a 600w digi with bulb for $200. I would move that to my shed grow and move the 400 inside. I don't know.

Well the issue of my veg part has been solved, at least figured out. When I was experimenting with it I was pulling air from underneath it and to the front by the ac vent. The air that come out of that vent is 57degrees. So that is why my temps where so low.

Being as through as i can be I did alot of math and reading today, Here is how the number break down.
Veg Room:
1.66"hx1.58"wx1.58"d=4.14ft^3
4.14ft^3 x 5(times air is changed a minute)=20.7CFM
200 watts/4= 50 cfm AEC, 70.7cfm fan needed
70.7x60= 4242cfh
4242x.36=1527.12grams of carbon
3"inner core x 12" long scrubber

Flower room:(just the numbers)
17.5ft^3
187cfm needed
11250cfh
4050 grams of carbon
4"inner core x 19"Long scrubber

So these are the numbers. I ran them because I wanted to know and I need to by enough carbon for three scrubbers. I really like the Idea of keeping the veg and flower room seperate. Well I light sealed the flower room. Redid the upper utility area front. I made two doors on it so I can just access it from the front. Thought I would just update you all. Still am up in the air for the flower lights. The numbers where done with a figure of 400 watts. Well it is almost light on and I have to go search for preflowers. Still would like any advice.

Ok it has been awhile so I thought I would throw a little update up. I now have all pieces required to fully assemble the cab. I got a 600 cfm pole fan. a 6" cool tube and a 400watt digi ballast. The ballast is coming from my shed grow and I am putting a 600 watt out there. I just have to run the 240v line and recepticle and switch out the bulbs. I didn't realize how big the cool tube was. I now have to figure out how I should run the ventalation ducts.

If I draw air like this scrubber>>Duct>>Cooltube>>Duct>>Fan Do you think it will beable to cool the light enough?

Ive got 10,000 lumens per sqft now and my girls are JUMPING out of there skin everyday I check on them!!!! seems to be atleast 1'' a day.

I was worried about light bleaching with my 400 in a 2x2x4 cab, but NONE at all. I would think that 10k lumans is about as high as you would want to go though
