friend that need MASSIVE HELP

i have a friend. he bought a car off of me about a year ago and it had a roach in the ashtray, weve been friends ever since.
just this past week he had the trust in me to show me his grow op.
now this guy is growing for personal use, maybe alittle cash on the side but nothing big. this is his biggest argument to me: "i get 1/4 pound every 3 months and thats good enough for me."

now let me tell you his set up and routine.

he has two of them wal mart aquarium/grow light shop light looking fixtures in alittle chamber with his mothers and uses that for his vegging plants also. this is not what i have the problem with.

he has a 1000 watt hps (pretty sure, he wasnt too comfortable with me in his growroom). he takes his plant out of vegging in 1 gal pots, KNOCKS ALL THE ROOTS DOWN TO A SOFTBALL SIZED MAIN ROOT BALL and them puts fresh soil around them in 3 gal pots and flowers them out.

he uses the miracle grow moisture lock 3 month feed and no no no no nutrients. he doesent even PH anything. no fans no intake exhaust just the light in a secret room with no reflectors, walls arent white or anything. the 1000w is covering atleast 150 sq ft and hes only using 12 plants underneath it.

i repeat, he knocks the roots off, doesent PH anything, no air circulation, no reflector or even hood for that manner, and absolutely no nutrients.

i really want to help this guy out and get his harvests up to atleast a pound considering...but he just wont take my advice on anything. he thinks once the 3 month feed is over he has to "change" the soil out which for him, requires knocking the roots off.

his mothers looked fine, but the flowering plants looked like my first grow, he need advice and he wont take it from me, my suggestion since hes all about low buck growing was, get an oscilation fan in each room, PH your water, instead of knocking the roots off just upgrade it in a bigger pot, and when i mentioned nutes he just cut me off.

any suggestions on what i can do to get this guy healthy plants? howabout how i should get him to 'believe' me?

i understand your concern, but he'll learn over time. maybe he isn't comfortable taking the plunge and investing the time, money, and energy into doing it. or maybe he's the type that feels "if it aint broke, don't fix it".

either way, you can always offer suggestions for him to browse this forum or perhaps buy him a book on growing. other than that, i personally would stay out of it and wish him the best of luck :)

Until he sees a need, he wont change. Steer him here to IC. If that don't do it nothing will. I took one look at The AMAZING NGB Cab , ripped my cab apart and started over from scratch.

some people are set in there ways. Maybe it's best if you offer some advice from a published grow book. Perhaps that will sell him more on it being viable information. Even though i feel information received from a friend to be more personal. I hope all goes well with your buddy man :joint:

i would give him some good growing book as a gift ... maybe he will take a look inside and decides that maybe hes isnt doing everything right

you can ignore the advice of people but books usually look more trustable

Tell him he's a genius, and pat him on the back, that's what he's looking for. Leave and enjoy your own grow in secret.

You can only teach by example, but in my experience, letting anyone know you grow is dangerous at the least.

Did you try any of the finished product? Proof is in the pudding...or not. If he's growing crap bring him a nug of what he could be growing and maybe he'll change his tune.

yea.. i went back over there today and i found out he doesent even put holes in the bottom of him pots for drainage, he says its better for water holding...i think i am at least getting him pretty close to atleast PHing his water though..

and as far as showing him a nug of my own, i cant do indoor right now, last harvest of indoor was ~8 months ago. straight outdoor this year.

and OF COARSE I pointed him to IC mag...he watches videos of some old head on youtube and like idolizes him..i just said to him
"i cant say anything bad about what you have, its definately a nice grow".

i know a guy exactly like that. they're too stubborn to take constructive critisism. they think by you helping them your're some kind of "know it all" just let em waste watts on shitty buds

after he smells your buds and wonders why his aint as dank, then he might come to you for help, and he'll be ready to take advise, once he gets his head out of his ass

i strongly agree. lol. some people jus hav to learn things on their own. no matter how much u try. mayb one day he'll realize wut he's missing by his unorthodox and unhealthy tactics. especially if he completely disregarded everything u were trying to explain to him:wallbash:

He might really mess up going for perfection, perfection is a hobby. That and a QP might be a legal limit, I can't say where you live. I can see your argument, it can be hard to appreciate another's sense. I knew a guy who is educated, but he would mess up growing all the time. I'd keep my distance, emotionally or it can be more trouble than it's worth. If you aren't pumping out what you need, then keep the pressure.

yea..just seeing unhappy plants makes me feel the same...i just like to see a obviously happy plant, it makes me all warm inside

You could always offer to grow one plant your way in his garden of weeden. I did that with my one buddy, and he has completely switched from soil to hydro, and is running perpetual now.

Maybe try for a little longer to improve things but don't flog a dead horse.....My tech partner and I were in a similar situation with a good buddy of ours who was pre-historic and stubborn and lazy with his 'Trampy' Growroom for years....Eventually we actually spent about 3 days fitting and many weeks planning and building him a totally processor controlled system(light, vent, water, environ testing) and pimped the whole area out.....This was all done as favour at only parts cost out of kindness and frustration with his Crappy setup and work ethic.......So annoyingly after 2 crops(Bloody good ones I might add) I found out he had un-installed the Flood, drain and mist system and controller we custom made him and was going back to perlite/vermiculite, hand-watering and cheap nutes etc. I could've bloody killed him I tell u,but I realised then that part of it was that he's scared of new things(and life in general as well) and is like that in many other way's in his day to day existence....Anyway my point is "some people are just shit and spending too much time helping them is a waste of your life" So don't be 'too much of a pal for too long' as u obviously aren't shit and the things you'd do with this time and effort if u weren't worrying about him would b time much better spent IMHO! JBo ;]

that is an awesome idea. ill let him keep the entire harvest, ill just grow one plant and i think he shouldnt have a problem with that idea. he would shit himself if he just saw what a huge difference can be made with not much effort.
