i think europeans are much more paranoid about strange sounds.a lot of there grows seem to have there fans encased in a sound boxes.

does any one sell sound boxes? is there a good tutorial on how to build the ultimate acoustic box?

a guy up the street got busted last month because the cops said they heared fans noise coming from his house.

It's a pretty easy Do-it-yourself job to make a box for the fan. The real challenge is to make the air flow into and out of the fan quiet.

For my sound box I went to Home Depot and purchased some EPS poly panels and aluminum tape. I built a box around the fan with the panels and aluminum tape to keep it secure and filled the voids with some spare R19 insulation I had. It cut the noise pollution down by a lot, but you can still hear it if you are in the same room.

I've seen some people use coolers, or as we call'em down here.....ice chests.

Just a suggestion....seems like it would work pretty good.

I see inexpensive foam coolers in various sizes for sale and wonder if they might work to reduce fan noise. A sharp knife, tape and a little work might be all you need.

Please excuse the horribly stupid execution (Combining flu, high temperature, panic, credit cards and power tools is a BAD thing) But, it works great.

Ingenious...

If a nosy neighbor should ask what it is, tell 'em its your homemade colonoscopy rig and would they like to try it.
