what happened to the days when your parent just kicked your ass... growing up i was more concerned with my pops finding out i smoked then getting popped by the cops.

CPS took that option away from the parent...shame really.

And if you ask privately, most cops and CPS workers would side with an appropriate amount of corporal punishment at an early age would do more good then later in life. This is the impression I received when dealing with cops teens and cps in a personal situation recently. Though drugs were not involved.

You do not know what the mom went through to that point...perhaps the kid was just disrespected his mom's wishes too many time previously and she had enough of him and his friends smoking in the driveway?

Open your minds to the possibilities of why she did it and not that she did it.

At 37 there is no excuse for such ignorance. She should have known better. He was at home with friends, not stealing cars and making other people's lives a misery. That woman has personal issues that she needs to address. With a mother like that, is it really any wonder the kid felt the need for a few tokes. Betrayal of a family member is on the list of very low things to do.

Just becasue pot is infinately safer then alcohol, it is still a drug.

Anyway, that is not the point but as a parent, I do not have to allow my kids to do drugs or alcohol on my property .

With that said, I drink and I smoke, my kids know it, and I say to them, when you are old enough, you can do as you wish.

Do however come on strong with regards to powders and pills and the ills of society they have created and they have seen first hand in our own extended family.

Having been a teenager that was not so nice to my (biological) mother due to my stepmother beating the shizzle out of me as well as locking me up for months at a time i can understand the mom's position.

We are not told the whole story in that article and can only presume things. Was it wrong for her to call the cops? We don't know as we were not in her shoes. Some have suggested that he was totally disrespecting her and if that was my kid i would probably do the same at that point to be honest knwoing how i was when i was younger. No respect for me means no respect for you. It does not matter that cannabis was in the picture in not.

But, in the off chance that the cops were solely called on teh basis of cannabis i would have to say that the mother needs a bit of education on the subject of cannabis as she just might have screwed up her own kids life for quite some time. Especially if the kid had plans to go to UNI since the FED's WILL not do any grants, scholarships, with a drug conviction.

She may have even shot herself in her foot if she is relying on food stamps for her kid as that might be in jeapardy as well.

These draconian laws need to be repealed.

Way I see it, (and I have been at this game for decades now), if you want to smoke pot, you have to make arrangements to do it without offending others, or jeopardizing your own security. If someone calls the cops on you, 9 times out of 10 it will be your fault.
They may be a punk ass snitch by nature, but they are the LAST ones I am going to give cause to. They won't be in my circle.
And if you are at home, well then you just aint got no choice but to live under the house rules. You don't own shit, you get to make no stinkin rules. And only blame yourself if you get outside of that box. Not Mom...or anyone else for that matter.

Yes, esp if your kid is a girl, I'd rather she was drunk at home safe, than on the streets drunk and at the mercy of what ever guys are around. Its age dependant of course, but at 16, deffinately.

it boggles my mind why a parent would have to call the cops for something like pot smoking, but as a parent myself i am still skeptical as far as whether or not i would do something like what the report suggested.

i think for me, i want to have that kind of relationship with my children of respect but understanding (before all the recent couple years of drama). IMO if you teach your kids that then, it just seems that things would go a lot smoother and patience would be learned/taught as well.

no dont get me wrong, my second or third posts suggests that none of us really know why this woman felt she had to call the cops, and maybe she had legitimate reasons in doing so. in the post, it was more of a question that i asked myself and never bothered to post answers i came up with, but i see a good amount of reasons to call the cops if the situation is some form of a boiling point or "last straw" type of thing.

as a parent my relationship with my kids is very strained right now. b4 my dilemma with my kids i would never even think of calling the cops on them or even having to call the cops on them, but now that so much has changed, i dont know them really and i would have to say that i would call the cops on them in a heart beat.

and honestly, these days we were all there as teens, the percentage of kids that experimented and got high and drunk dwarfed the number that didnt. for me it just makes sense that if you can keep a party where kids can be free to have a drink and have it moderated then its better than the anyones child ending up the news or in some morgue somewhere. its an unlikely thing, but i am suer that there is a community where that type of thing is done and we would more than likely be shocked at the level of drug/ alcohol abuse within that community.

after so many years of abstinence lets try the alternative and give monitored moderation a try, of course lets focus on the cannabis and even alcohol. im not saying you should hold X parties or meth bashes for your kids and their friends
