definetley the second one IMO. i have it and it buzz's for the first ten min. while warming up. then it is dead silent! works really good also in a smaller grow box. i use the scrog method in about a 2ftx2ft and 3ft high box and have gotten really good results!

I'd go with #1 even if the prices were reversed. The ballast is remote and, by appearances, more upgradeable.

do not get the second one.. the one with remote ballast is best..anything with a built in reflector, ballast, bulb all in one is going to produce alot of heat. the one from HTG is the bomB diggy :joint:

To be honest, no.
For sure none from having an all in one unit. Ballast creates little/no heat.
I had to reconsider the fresh air ventilation though, fans to small for cab. I wish I had some great grow pictures accompany my support for the sun system all-in-1, but a spell of over watering really stunted grow and progress. Well, you live and you learn..

I'm looking into building a small 150 stealth cab, and heat is an issue given Summer temperatures where I am located but I figure a 150 won't generate that much heat and it sounds like these Sun System lights are fairly quiet too, which would be a major plus. After looking around, I am amazed at what some people are accomplishing with a single 150. :yoinks:

One hums a little and one is silent.
I wasn't concerned because noise isn't a problem. If high temp's are a problem and your concerned it, wouldn't be hard to encase and suck out the heat. My grow box blows and now that I am getting some seeds together I am going to purchase a grow tent.

I suppose if noise is an issue I could always place an aquarium nearby and the sound of the pumps and filters would hopefully drown out the buzzing from the grow. :D

i strongly disagree..i have grown with both and there is a big differance..i have used 150's for well over 10 years and have set many of buddies up with 150w hps setups.

my buddy went with a all in 1 ballast, bulb, reflector 250w and in the same room a 250w remote ballast setup and there was a 8-15+ degree differance between the two boxes. if its hot you can always vent for better temps but i always go for the cooler way right off the bat.

I went with the sun system at first and wish I went with the htg setup with remote ballast so you could do a cool tube with a bake a round tube or somethin.

i would go with sunsystem only because its a very good company and have great products BUT i own the same HTS system but in a 400 watt and has been running nonstop for 3 years with no problems so iam torn between the both.............. the reason i say sunsystem i have owned 2 1000 watt systems for 8 years and there still kicking

The first one has many advantages over the second:

1) Its ballast can be placed externally from the grow area, reducing temperatures.

2) It is easier to hang and position a reflector without a heavy ballast to worry about

3) Modular components allow for upgrades. If you want to upgrade to a higher wattage light, it will be easier to switch out the ballast as the wiring is already there. There is also the potential to swap out the magnetic ballast with a silent and more efficient electronic one at a later point in time.

It doesn't have to drown it out. Use it as a patsy. You can have tons of noise as long as it comes with a plausible (though totally false) explanation.
